Now that Dolby Atmos is integrated in Logic Pro, the question is, "Can You Mix Dolby Atmos On Headphones"?
This is a question everybody should ask who is trying to create Dolby Atmos mixes without an expensive 12 or more immersive speaker setup.
In this Production Expert article, I don't provide just one, but 5 answers.

Well, I definitely heard it on my Sennheisers in VSL's demonstration on Youtube of it, it was pretty pronounced. Color me amazed. It makes me want a copy of Logic.

That's what it's there for, isn't it?

That article doesn’t mention at all the obvious technology. With Waves Nx for example I can mimic real speakers on headphones and when I turn my head the speakers do not turn with me. There should be a way to place more than 2 speakers with the same technology. (I didn’t try it). I expected some instructions in that direction…

Pertaining to the mention of VSL, they're very excited about the technology and are working on immersive MIR Pro.
It's a side benefit to Logic they demonstrated it so well, but the integration of VE Pro with Logic has pitfalls they still have not solved (AU3 version still in beta).
I'd like to have it just to have this right now, but I'm not moved really to buy it at the moment, I can wait and hold onto my money for MIR Pro 3D or however they name it.

So do we need special headphones with multiple drivers or what?

The demonstration I experienced was a marimba part moving in a circle around the audient, as well as high vs low, and it was completely obvious, on my Sennheiser 280 Pros.
Never experienced anything like it. I've had purportedly surround 'phones.

how do your headphones, know your head has turned to create that effect?

In my case there is a little bluetooth device on top of the headphone, or it can watch you with your camera and recognize the turning (never tested that though, might be too slow and wouldn’t work 360 degrees…) I got the complete pack including the tracking device on a Waves sale…
