BTW, I've been observing the theme name on the first page for a while.
Actually, I think it's misleading and not fair to Waldorf, as these definitely sound great, and the title works as false anti-advertisement.
So, mods, can you please rename it to smth less dogmatical

First off, Largo does not cost $29. It's currently $180 in the Waldorf shop. That puts it in the u-he Diva, Repro-5, and Hive cost category (not to mention all the Arturia instruments if bought individually). A plugin that is priced the same as some of the better-sounding plugins on the market should sound exceptional. Largo (if loaded up with a couple of converted Blofeld libraries) can sound okay. But it's certainly not great.cfernn wrote: Mon Nov 08, 2021 10:31 pm comparing a $29 plugin to $2000+ hardware synths
ayayay... Largo is great for the value
Anyway, use it if you want to. But if you are thinking that you can replace a MicroWave I, II, or Waldorf M with Largo/Blofeld, you'll probably be disappointed. FYI, this was what I said in my opening post and was the point of the thread.
I've said enough (and more) on this subject. Enjoy Largo and Blofeld if you decide to go that route.

It's every bit as good as those, for me even better.Gadget Fiend wrote: Tue Nov 09, 2021 12:02 amFirst off, Largo does not cost $29. It's currently $180 in the Waldorf shop. Not sure why you compare it to analog emulations though. Maybe that's the mistake you're making: To treat it like an analog emulation. It's a digital wavetable synthesizer, with the typical Waldorf-esque sound. Better compare it to the likes of Serum, Massive, whatever.
Anyway, we're really arguing about taste here. You have every right to dislike its sound. It's just that the way you're presenting your subjective opinion here leaves a lot to be desired.

Oh my god, now you've taken it upon yourself to be the brand police. You are definitely not ready for the real world if you need the mods to protect your delicate sensibilities. Regardless, I have renamed the thread title. I hope it meets your wanna-be mod approval.Dencheg wrote: Mon Nov 08, 2021 11:53 pm BTW, I've been observing the theme name on the first page for a while.

Incidentally, you might want to read my original post before taking such a self-righteous stance. There is nothing incendiary in that post.

So the real world thinks that "Waldorf Largo/Blofeld sound AWFUL", and it's not a harm to these people whatsoever cause the world is already aware of it? In this case, why the need to declare that?
Just next time consider "I hear AWFUL sound from Waldorf Largo/Blofeld, especially when they are turned on"
upd: Ok, my call for mods was a bit "reporting happy", but I didn't think you would be available or would be willing to rephrase your statement

No, if you read my original post, I mentioned that there is a lot of interest in the classic MicroWave I and MicroWave II synths given all the excitement about the "M", the MicroWave I/II reissue.Dencheg wrote: Tue Nov 09, 2021 12:19 am So the real world thinks that "Waldorf Largo/Blofeld sound AWFUL", and it's not a harm to these people whatsoever cause the world is already aware of it? I also mentioned that given the high price for the M and its large form factor, some people like myself might want to check out Largo as a possible alternative to the M. I then said that after listening exhaustively to all the Largo presets and after programming a number of soundscape-type patches of my own, I concluded that Largo sounded "dreadful."
I did subsequently hear a couple of Blofeld preset banks, one from Don Solaris and another from a fellow on Gearspace who had spent a crazy amount of time trying to emulate a "best of" set of MicroWave I patches. These two banks made me realize that if you are a professional sound designer and have a lot of time to work on your Blofeld patches, you can come up with something that sounds decent.
But a Blofeld or Largo will still not replace a MicroWave I or Waldorf M (not that they are intended to despite having the same wavetables as the MWI and MWII).

I am not comparing the sound of Largo to that of Diva, Repro, and Hive. I'm just saying that Largo is currently priced the same as those plugins. Given that, most people would naturally expect the same sound quality and musicality - but again, not the same analog sound because that would be silly. Largo is a completely different digital beast form Diva or Repro. Unfortunately, Largo is just a bad sounding digital synth for the most part.chk071 wrote: Tue Nov 09, 2021 12:07 am Not sure why you compare it to analog emulations though. My wife made a soup yesterday. I thought it was good, but she and my daughter both disliked it quite a bit. It definitely had an interesting blend of spice… like a Moroccan dish with Mexican chorizo. The soup was made with very high quality ingredients, so it had nothing to do with poor quality. They just didn’t like it and no words could convince them to like it.chk071 wrote: Tue Nov 09, 2021 12:07 amIt's every bit as good as those, for me even better.Gadget Fiend wrote: Tue Nov 09, 2021 12:02 amFirst off, Largo does not cost $29. What I don’t get is how people taste “a soup” and then decide that they have to be some sort of anti-evangelical who must tell the world of people who like the soup how wrong they are. What’s up with that? Are they unsure of their opinion so they’re looking for assurance? I don’t like oysters, but when someone I’m with orders them, I don’t spend a moment telling them that eating phlegm-muscle that tastes like low tide and lemon is terrible and they’re out of their mind to do it. I just order something I like and move on.

It’s commonly on sale for as low as $29, and probably no one buys it for its MSRP.Gadget Fiend wrote: Tue Nov 09, 2021 2:43 amI am not comparing the sound of Largo to that of Diva, Repro, and Hive. Why do you feel compelled to keep letting us know you think Largo sounds bad? We get it. You don’t like it. I don’t like you, but I’m not going to start a thread about it.

I absolutely love this Analogy and packs really alot of wisdom here!! Thanks Zero crossing. .. in fact this thread has just conviced me to give Largo a second look after loving its sound several years back and reminding me that Largo IS the missing tool in my tools for Synthwave Music!! Thank you to the OP for fueling my GAS for Largo!!zerocrossing wrote: Tue Nov 09, 2021 3:25 amMy wife made a soup yesterday. My god, your tortured analogies are killing me. Here's a more apt analogy: You tell your dinner companion, "Hey, I have tried the oysters at this restaurant several times. And they've always been bad. Awful in fact. I know the crab legs are more expensive. But why don't you try them instead?"zerocrossing wrote: Tue Nov 09, 2021 3:25 am My wife made a soup yesterday. AGAIN, if you read my original post, all I was saying is that if you are looking for an inexpensive software alternative to the original MicroWave or Waldorf M, Large is not it. In fact, it sounds pretty dreadful by comparison.
What about those statements isn't true? Remember, I said, "by comparison."

What's the copy protection on Largo BTW?
