I'm considering buying nexus 3 despite how ugly I think it looks. The value 10 bundle includes the latest 10 exps, but is it really the case that you cannot choose the 10 exps that you want?

I've been eying Nexus 3 for a while and am hoping for a Black Friday sale to finally push me over the edge, but I'm a bit worried about the copy protection. I see complaints, are there any issues still? Or is it all working fine for everyone here now?

(Like someone said earlier in the thread, and I know that this won't happen, but I'd love the eLicenser to come back - it just worked for me with Cubase. Same with iLok really. I'd much rather have that than any "codemeter" shenanigans running on my system...)

Nexus does not use Codemeter

Just curious - the new Nexus Hollywood Piano I presume is the same sample set as the Avenger Cinematic piano? What surprises me is that it uses 2.4gb of drive space, whereas the Avenger says "over 20gb of uncompressed samples". I always thought one of the selling points of Nexus was it was superior for multisamples?

What is the difference between the two products, Manuel?

like being said, they share the source samples of 3 pianos (Steinway B D and Yamaha C3)
the rest of the presets is totally different. The Nexus features a Yamaha C7 and Avenger a Cembalo and a Rhodes for example. Even the Pianos which share the same source samples sound slightly different because of the totally different engines of both synths and a slightly different mapping. They have a different "feel" when played. Nexus has a little better CPU consumption.

The filesize is both roughly the same It says "uncompressed" samples in the Avenger text, in compressed form, Avenger is also around 2-3GB (its a losless compression of course)

Thanks Manuel, useful stuff. It's interesting to me though that Nexus has always been touted as the superior sample player with the ability to have a lot more round robins, velocity layers etc, but these seem fairly equivalent on that score?

yes because there are no RRs. And like I said, Nexus has lower CPU

Please, I need help about selling my license for ReFX Nexus 3, a "Complete Bundle" edition bought in Q1 2020. I asked to ReFX for the best place to sell my license, and they recommend me this forum. Thanks in advance!

Buy/sell forum but you’re too new to post there. You’ll have to wait a while. I’d post over at VI Control in the meantime in there classified section.

Wow. Hold on to your hats, folks. From the reFX newsletter:
Steinberg has informed us that they are discontinuing the USB-eLicenser and soft-eLicenser technology as of January 1st, 2022. Steinberg will maintain the server handling those services for a grace period of six months until June 30th, 2022. After that period, Steinberg reserves the right to shut down the server at its sole discretion.

Unfortunately, this move is beyond our control and there is absolutely nothing we can do about it.

IMPORTANT: YOUR NEXUS2 WILL CONTINUE TO WORK, EVEN AFTER THE SERVER HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN.

However, once the server has been shut down, it will no longer be possible to download new licenses to any USB-eLicenser or transfer licenses stored on a USB-eLicenser to a different USB-eLicenser. This means if your USB-eLicenser containing your NEXUS2 license gets damaged, you will not be able to transfer it to a new USB-eLicenser.

We highly recommend upgrading to NEXUS3 which does not use the USB-eLicenser technology but simply requires you to go online briefly once every 30 days. This is a rolling window so you could even go on a trip to the outback for four weeks and still use NEXUS3 the entire time if NEXUS3 had an internet connection the day before you started your trip.

NEXUS3 comes with three activations for your personal computers, so you can easily work in your studio, on your laptop, and your home computer. If you need to replace a computer, simply deactivate one of your old machines and then activate NEXUS3 on your new computer.

The upgrade to NEXUS3 also includes the expansions “ROM Extension 2” and “Summer Deep Chill”. That's a total of 490 new presets.

Plus, if you decide to upgrade to NEXUS3, you can trade in your NEXUS2 license for a NEXUS expansion of your choosing.

Will we be able to upgrade Nexus2 to Nexus3 once the Steinberg server has been shutdown? Judging by the announcement, it doesn't seem like it'll be an issue.

I think so - though the trade-in Nexus 2 license for a free expansion may be more tricky:
Trade in your NEXUS2 license

If you have upgraded from NEXUS2 to NEXUS3, you can trade in your NEXUS2 license for any NEXUS expansion of your choosing. Since this process is also affected by the eLicenser Server closure, we recommend to do this as soon as possible. Once the server has been shut down, the license can't be exchanged anymore.
