I think (and propose) we should make a campaign asking Steinberg to keep eLicenser as an alternative, or at least give the users a hybrid solution (one license deposited in eLicenser and another allowed through the new online system). That way all user's needs would be protected.

I can already tell you that that won't have any success. eLicenser's end is fixed. They won't continue it. Only for products which use eLicenser now, and which are still supported.

How come? What about third parties that use the eLicenser (like VSL, for example?). Will they drop eLicnser too?

Yes. They've already announced they're moving to iLok back in March of this year.

Yep. Nexus developer just announced it yesterday.

I have a feeling that those are the same people who were complaining that eLicenser is taking 1 USB port and they can't live with such an unbearable burden.
Yes, people who were complaining about the eLicenser are now tasting their own venom, and seeing that, after all, eLicenser is not that bad. Probably better than the given alternative. They were probably expecting Steinberg to go to a simple serial number authorization

That would be really nice to have but I really doubt that Steinberg/Yamaha would want to carry both of them because of... what a surprise here... maintenance costs.
Except if they would put subscription on a physical dongle

Its been 12 months and there has been zero progress on the midi implementation rewrite they teased. Track freeze needs to be upgraded to allow multiple tracks per pass. Cubase kills for mixing for me, but the sound design aspect of being creative is sorely lacking....
This was exactly my thoughts. Fear that the new update this year would be mostly the dongle free jump. But no!!! it's worse, we don't even get an update. It may read sad but it's the 1 thing I get hyped for this time of year.

I don't understand. What you do you mean with "we don't even get an update"? Cubase 12 is an update, and it comes with new features.

andypryce wrote: Thu Nov 11, 2021 7:12 am Right now who would pay $600 for Cubase with a license key that will be obsolete soon and after that you have to report every thirty days to use your program. This is insane.
They will likely be offering subs for those that can't afford to pay $600 for Cubase. They said the new move to the new Steinberg Licensing allows them to open up many new possibilities for the way they offer products, which is a coded way to say subscriptions are coming.

And as a Mac user you pay a price premium for your hardware. That premium includes the R&D costs of developing software such as Logic.

Personally I was happy with the dongle and would of much preferred the efforts spent on bug fixes and inconsistent features

It's too early say whether C12 will be a worthy update or not. Unless you're a beta tester and have some info that is not public. Steinberg are keeping their cards close to their chest, it's quite possible C12 could solve all bugs that affect you and also update all the inconsistent features.

I did. Still don't understand. Just because kev2525 didn't get what he wants (or, rather... thinks he doesn't get what he wants, because, AFAIK, there hasn't been an announcement of Cubase 12's feature set yet), it is not an update? Or, do you mean that you don't get a statement/update about new features?

I also still have an inactivated 11 update, but the email we received this morning just says that grace period eligibility details are coming, so I will wait for now for an email, no rush. Maybe they have something in mind for others for Black Friday .
