Do Ohm Force Catalina plug-ins work on Intel Big Sur?

EDIT: I skipped Big Sur and now they work on Monterey.

Anyone here who had Ohm Force plug-ins (like Ohmicide, OhmBoyz the original, QuadFromage, etc) try upgrading to Big Sur on an Intel Mac? Did they work OK afterwards?

I have the new Catalina versions they made and they work ok on 10.15.7, just curious what will happen if I update my OS.

I saw some posts saying they didn’t work on M1 Macs but I wasn’t really expecting them to. Theres a lot less info on if the Catalina versions work on Big Sur Intel.

for me and apparently for others the graphics are messed up on everything except ohmboyz infinity (which is newer and can be messed up in other ways). as it seems the GUIs work again on Monterey, it is probably down to a bug apple introduced in Big Sur.

I was thinking of trying the Catalina Ohmicide plugin but the installation instructions demonstrate such a poor knowledge of the Mac file system it seemed pointless.

what's the issue there? is this the presets location? it's been like that for years and years.

the graphics are totally scrambled on Big Sur.. but look fine on Monterey. it's weird. there's a lot of info in the 'infinity' thread.

No just some of the instructions don't make a lot of sense and they can't seem to make a proper installer

Quick Installation Guide for Catalina users

1 - Copy and paste the content of the Key folder into
Users/<your account>/Library/Application Support/

So you just drop a folder called 'Key' right into Application support? Usually it would go inside subfolder like "Ohmforce' or similar

Note again: this above was the only part happening in Users/<your account>
*All of the following has to happen in MacintoshHD as the root instead.*

2 - Copy and paste the Presets Folder itself into Library/

Again I'm dropping a whole folder called 'Presets' right into the Library folder - what if another plugin wants to also put a folder called presets there? It needs to use the designated Mac presets folders or at least a subfolder 'Ohmforce'

3 - Copy and paste some or all of the following depending on your needs:

For Audio Units
Content of the AU folder into Library/Audio/

Should be Library/Audio/Plugins/Components

For VST
Content of the VST folder into Library/Audio/

Should be Library/Audio/Plugins/Components/Plugins/VST

It's hard to trust that any of this is going to work

the instructions i saw look a bit different, though they assume you know the plugin locations: https://blog.ohmforce.com/catalina-ohm-guide/

pacifist might do the job of installation from the .pkg file but iirc, their installer was a bit more customised than most, which

a) might explain some of the trouble updating it for catalina.

b) might give pacifist some trouble.

Post

regardless of how you install them the graphics will be scrambled on Big Sur.

i assumed amused was looking at running it/them on catalina.

No I'm on Big Sur but just wanted to try it

Thanks that's more what I would expect - I was quoting the install file that comes with the Catalina build, which doesn't come in an installer package but just as folders to put in various locations, and which is clearly wrong

Thanks for the info everyone. Looks like I'll stay on Catalina for a little longer.

I managed to load the plugins up on a Big Sur Intel laptop and can confirm that the GUIs are all scrambled. You can use one of those "controls only" modes like in Logic or REAPER and it seems stable, but that's a pretty awful way to control these plugins.

Hopefully they fix them sometime... with Ohm Force I have a feeling it will happen at their own pace...

it's worth emailing them to give them feedback. you likely won't get a response but at least they'll know there is some demand for their work. don't hold your breath though. their plan is to come out w/new versions for each plug in in the same way that ohmboyz Infinity is the successor to OhmBoyz delay.

so, i think they are done messing w/the old code.. sadly.. since they're back and looking good in Monterey. i shared my thoughts w/them more than once but it's a different company now and they don't have the full team around that made the original plug ins.

Well, I guess that's good to know but most other companies don't support Monterey yet so I'm not going to update just to get my Ohm Force GUIs back. Kind of a sucky spot to be stuck in. Strange that Ohm's GUIs weren't working for a whole year and some change of macOS.

I emailed them, we'll see what they say when they can answer.

How did you manage to install ohmboyz on Monterey? I get an error message about the installer, it doesn't work (stop sign).
