i don't think i'm gonna be complaining about Rosetta 2 when my new turbo charged Macbook gets here.
The benchmark is about 400% higher than my current macbook so i'm sure the performance is gonna be nuts no matter if Rosetta is involved. I have been thinking I'll keep it all native, but my DAW isn't yet so what the ferk. I don't see how i could resist installing Cubase 11 and just smashing out 24/96 mixes in Rosetta mode :D

You are correct... I've been using Rosetta a lot over past year with M1 MBA.

But almost just for kicks I'm gonna see how long I can go without using Rosetta on my new M1Pro MBP due to arrive in mid Dec.

Sort of an opportunity to thin out my overabundance of software... and sort of reward the developers who have made the effort to be Native.

Precisely. Not only has binary translation improved dramatically since then, ARM and x64 share the same endian-ness, which means that the memory of an Intel process does not have to be translated on-the-fly for ARM. That was what made PowerPC translation especially bad.

My 16" M1 Max arrives Monday. My daily work driver is now a 14" M1 Pro. I run OBS on it for video calls. It's non-native. On my 2019 16", the fans would be running full speed. On the M1 Pro, the fans do not run. I no longer have to filter out the white noise on my calls. It's incredible. I've also been running Windows 11 ARM in Parallels, and letting Windows do ARM translation of x86 apps. Been working great.

Soundtheory just announced their M1 beta for Gullfoss. (on their mailing list)

UA did a stealth release of native versions (at least the AU versions) of most of their plugins in the recent 9.15 version. I don't have a way to test the VST versions. The UAD Meter & Control Panel app is now universal but the Console is still Intel.

The release notes for 9.15 say Rosetta compatibility, but a UA rep confirmed most (he mentioned bx_refinement and Auto Tune as exceptions) are native in AU form.

Saw that on Gearspace (regarding UA)...they specifically said that this should be treated as kind of an Easter Egg until all products are ready, when they'll do an official announcement.

Synapse Audio finally relented on the whole separate installers thing for M1 and Intel. Their latest installers are now UB2 for all plugin types (save AAX, of course). However, oddly, they have separate binaries for Intel-only.

On an M1 Mac, the installers install the UB2 version, and on Intel, the Intel-only version. Great that we can run their plugins on M1 regardless of DAW. Weird, though, not to just install the UB2 binaries everywhere.

Oblivion Sound Labs Hex Drum was updated to support M1 and Big Sur last November as of version 1.01. Didn't see mention of it here.

Let me know when it's released, as I (mostly) don't add private betas.

TLDR Translation: We’re still waiting for the full release of iLok.

That, and I'me willing to bet their GUI framework doesn't work natively on AS.

A couplef native plug ins missing from the list at this point.
PSP Vintage Warmer, FXpansion/Roli- Equator 2, Strobe 2

Softube - have updated their plugs. Not Native but play nicely when running Logic in non-Rosetta mode with none of the previous GUI/button selection issues.

Thanks Softube, just when I’d developed the muscle memory to click a button then twist a knob for the gui to update 🤣
