What cryophonik states. However, it's not a bad idea to go for some popular fx plugins at some point. FabFilter (which I don't use btw) and Valhalla come to mind; tons of great tutorials out there.

Yeah I see both of those a ton. I've enjoyed the Mike Shinoda twitch streams a lot and some other ones, and the names you all are throwing out are definitely the paid ones I've seen the most at this point.

It’s a good synth, but just know that it can be a CPU killer.Dadtronix wrote: Sat Nov 13, 2021 4:27 pm Ha yeah if anything I was checking out Pigments since it looks quite modern and fun and supports NKS
One good exercise to start is to make yourself complete a song using just 2-3 instruments (e.g., Battery, Pigments, Massive) and nothing else but Ableton’s stock plugins. Use it as an exercise to stay focused on song production while really getting to know a few of the tools you have. You may find along the way that you want some different tools, like other reverbs, delays, instruments, EQs. Then look to what you have in K13.

OMG I LOVE this guy's tutorials, they're my favorites I've found so far - thanks for pointing that one out. I want to work through a few of his, like the ones in the styles of The Prodigy and David Guetta to start, and see what I don't know afterwards.

I something is going for further mastering, you should be disabling the limiter anyway.Bulbizarre wrote: Sat Nov 13, 2021 1:33 pm ...
especially since in general at the master stage you add some sparkle or harmonics (depends on taste, but in general most good mastering engineer will do this I think), so you're re-processing you're bad limiter and it will sound muddy.
Not entirely sure what you mean here, but it sounds like a job for a bus compressor rather than a limiter.even 2db to keep each channel/buss integrity for conflicting with eachother when you're all ITB with plugins and don't have the natural analog round-off thing

So here's an example of where I'm at if anyone's curious. This is basically a few hours noodling and tweaking with just a simple song structure. No particular style and it doesn't sound like radio edm but I was just goofing off after I made a drum beat I liked

This is all NI Komplete 13 synths for lead, bass and sub bass, all using presets, maybe just slightly adjusted since I barely understand synths yet. Drum is Polyplex from Komplete but could easily have been Battery, and I just slightly shortened the kick wav to fit my needs. EQ and compression and a master bus limiter are all Ableton Suite 11.
So I can get around the DAW and end up with a track at least, and write a super primitive melody and bass parts to match, but it's not fluid or anything amazing yet.

If you have Live Suite and Komplete you already have everything (and more) than you'll ever need to make techno/trance. Its really just a matter of learning your fx and instruments and the techniques used in that genre. Take the time to listen and learn how techno artists put their tracks together.
The track above has no resemblance to techno. The beat is very 80's (reminded me of Toni Bazil "Oh Mickey") and the "tune" sounds pretty random. You need a "hook". Trance/techno music is based on groove, repetition and a 4 on the floor kick drum.

Thanks yeah it definitely wasn't meant to show off my ability to work in the genre. More an example of where I'm at so far with technical skills, and the bit I understand so far about EQ and finishing a track.thecontrolcentre wrote: Sun Nov 14, 2021 12:59 am If you have Live Suite and Komplete you already have everything (and more) than you'll ever need to make techno/trance. It was in Massive not MassiveX. Would have to boot in later to confirm but just go through the ones organized under Synth Lead under Komplete Kontrol. I just took the preset and tweaked the attack and cutoff times I believe, and added EQ8 on the end.

Ended up grabbing Arturia Pigments 3 now that the Black Friday prices are up - love the presets and the visual UI/UX of it, and it's integrated perfectly with Komplete Kontrol (I'm requiring NKS support of anything I try in the future). Here's a basic track, super dumb but a chance to learn. Intro/riser and the melody synth that kicks in after a minute or so in are all Pigments 3, drums are Battery and the bass synth is from Massive.
