My guess is that they will bit by bit add the functionality of the environment and then later drop it.syntonica wrote: Sat Nov 13, 2021 5:17 pmAlthough I'm not a FCP user, they threw out their old GUI at one point and completely reinvented it with a while new paradigm. I'm not sure if there were any structural changes under the hood though. I wish the Logic crew would do the same, starting with cleaning out the sewers ( getting rid of the Environmentpdxindy wrote: Sat Nov 13, 2021 2:26 pmThe Logic development team has been on it the past few years. Tons of great improvements. The Dev team is fresh and forward thinking, not just going through the motions. Very impressive.aMUSEd wrote: Sat Nov 13, 2021 10:41 am Logic just gets better and better - I just discovered (no idea when this was added) if I drag a sample now from the browser to a new track it asks me if I want it to just make an audio track, or make a sampler patch with it, or even an Alchemy patch (including options for spectral and additive resynthesis) right there in the track.) and replacing it with something far more transparent and usable.
Should I try Logic pro as an alternative to Studio one 5?

I'm not even advanced enough to know what I would need the Logic environment to be used for?
Although I can see that it must be for some fancy MIDI thing..... still... nope
nah
what? Manuals are for wussies

The environment is the most interesting part of Logic, its a modular patching environment. I know it from maybe version 3, but I switched to Max/MSP which certainly is more easy and powerful as such, but not a DAW…
Actually they did the rewrite with the introduction of Pro X. They kept the environment for good reasons… But what can I say I am a Bitwig fanboy now…

If you like Studio One 5, why would you want an alternative? Just because you’re on Mac, that doesn’t mean you have to conform to Apple culture.

I wasn't one until recently. Last year bought an M1 Macbook, then to complement it an iPhone 12. Then a watch, the Airpods, iPad Pro, iTV... I feel offended.

Don't get me wrong, I was half joking. I definitely see a pattern though. And an intention from the company for that sort of thing.
Well... not like all the others don't try it too. Apple is just the prototype.

Companies like Samsung wish they could do the same (although I don't understand why they don't...money can't be the problem)
But it is true. The average Apple user is a technology moron in general.

Can I ask, why are you tired of Ableton? Depending on the type of music you produce, its immensely capable, and honestly pretty well put together IMO.
For what its worth, I think Logic is great. The stock plugins are some of my favorite, I really wish they sold them as VSTs to be used in other DAWs. Definitely a lot of value on offer for the asking price.

Because Logic does everything I need to make music. period.
I'm tired of trying to justify DAW hopping. I do it a lot. It's not the DAW, it's me

most of us know your strawman facking well at this point. And another tendency that's liable to be a reaction to this, you're going to basically do "YOU MAD BRO". You're reducible to a stereotype as well, & actually fitting it. Believe this, this isn't anything, it's so predictable it's anodyne. But since you asked for it...
what tf is 'Apple culture' anyway?
I know what I do, I have a computer they make, which is robust enough to do insane projects
I don't care about the other devices, it bores me utterly, a phone, a watch, an annoying af tablet. Which does have a stunning display, but it's all surfeit.

The environment is what makes Logic, Logic, and unique.
Cubase has teh Logical Editor, which I use occasionally, The Environment, I never got that involved, w Logic 8.

Since computer literacy seems to get brought up a lot in regards to Mac vs PC, nothing about Logic is dumbed down compared to Studio One 5 and they're both about as simple to learn as each other.
And on an off-topic note, surveys show the majority of people are not well-versed in computers so I don't think any one operating system can claim to have all the smart people
