Vocoders - ImageLine Vocodex worth getting?

The official site says this : All Image Line VST plugin program registrations are discontinued.
Customers who bought a VST plugin registration in the past, can still use their VST plugin software and registration from 'my account' > 'my licenses'.
They had a few things I still wanted to check out, but oh well. I'll buy fruity loops if I get a bug up my butt about it. I can always run it in another host.

Bugger - I was thinking of buying from Plugin Boutique - so I guess their sales will be null and void then?Ah_Dziz wrote: Tue Nov 02, 2021 2:16 amThe official site says this : All Image Line VST plugin program registrations are discontinued.

I might have to go check out the Rocoder thingy instead.

Actually, your comment about buying FL made me think - their Producer version includes Vocodex and sells for $199. Which is still cheaper than some of the other vocoders such as Izotope etc. I might have to go think about that one. I'm pretty sure I don't want the hassle of loading up a whole other DAW just to be able to use a vocoder though. Baaaaah! I'll just go and check out some of the other ones. Waldorf or Papen topping the list at the moment. I really hated the look of that Lector thing though...and Rocoder includes loads of shite that I also don't want. Bah f**king humbug. Maybe I do need to buy the Behringer vocoder and be done with it. At least DAWs won't get in the way of it...

Make sure you get it very cheap if you buy the image line one, since they're not supporting their plugins anymore, it's pretty much abandonware.
Just tested the Arturia one as since I own it as part of V Collection. Sounds great. Can't figure out how to polyphonically retrigger to the sample though.

I think you just hit jackpot. I was checking MVocoder out after I left KvR - initially I discounted it (dunno why - I think I only associate Melda with their freebies - didn't know they did so many quality plugins as well). Actually, it's a beauty. No, it's f**king stunning! 100 bands, so it can be a very clear vocoder. Not too cluttered GUI unlike the Waldorf one (checked out Rocoder properly too - and their GUI is a bit cluttered IMO). Tons and tons of options and modulation under the hood and I have to say, some very good vids and tuition. Rocoder is good, but Melda sings to me like a traditional vocoder.
Here's the teaser vid, and they do a series of 3 deeper vids - f**k me, I never knew you could do reverb with vocoders! Just for showing some of these stunning options, I'm going to get MVocoder. And it's on special through November - 25 Euro. f**k me twice from behind - that's a silly price. Bought!
And the bit about how to do reverb at 9:16. I really did not expect that.
Righto - I'm off to my dungeon to play robot voices and singing Battlestar Galactica with Mr Melda.

Have to say that Melda have a weird way of buying plugins. You have to d/l the installer which contains every plugin they ever made, and select which one(s) to install. Over 500MB. Not a problem as you can simply delete the installer afterwards, but it is a huge d/l. I get it, in that they offer all of the freebies as part of the process (I chose not to get them - 38 of them IIRC) but it seems a bit extreme to have to d/l over half a gig. Seamless though, and I really get a good first impression of Melda...very useful vids on their site.
Still haven't actually played with it yet though...last night I went downstairs specifically to check it out and got sidetracked with delays, that rather nice Valhalla Supermassive, delved into the Cubase included multitap delay (never really tried it out properly...quite useful when you add FX modules to it) and then Izotope Elements...which I forgot I even had...another nice thing I don't know why I ignored. So I'll try again today with MVocoder.

I am far from a vocoder expert, and really have only used one a few times, but needed one recently for a project. I ended up using the free Tal one after trying (and failing) with the one built into Logic Pro. Sounded fine to me and was reasonably easy to use even for a vocoder neophyte.
I've considered getting one for live use but it would have to be a pedal or tabletop because I'm already bringing two keyboards. My MODX has a vocoder but I couldn't get anything decent out of it.
I KNOW I'd abuse the heck out of it. Playing a hard rock song? Vocoder. EVERY dance song would be full of vocoder. I can hear the rest of the band now...."Um, about that vocoder, sounds great...in moderation..."

I am glad you posted; years ago I wrote a series on how to use vocoders in Cubase, since some of the routing required there is not exactly intuitive. Melda's MVocoder did not exist at the time I did my round-up, and this thread was the first I'd heard of it. That thing looks pretty great- and it's on sale now, too, so I am afraid I'm gonna have to pick it up!

Yeah, that's a very good price. I was considering paying $250 for one of the others, but this is 1/10 of the price, and really does perform like the expensive ones (better than some of them actually). I haven't delved into the automation yet...that has great possibilities. I like the look of Rocoder's XY pad, but tbh whenever Papen demoed it...it sounded very glitchy. And MVocoder is easy to just use as a straight old-fashioned (but quality) vocoder.
Yeah, I remember back when routing was a bit convoluted for many DAWs...most of them seem to have made all that so much easier now. Sidechaining etc now not difficult.

I have seen lots of people selling their entire FL accounts to get around the rules. It's not necessarily on the up and up but you can still get the vsts that way.
