I had been away from music for some months and fired up Dune to update it. Wow! I didn't even remember how good it sounds just with one oscillator.

I'm not finding the new DUNE 3 browser to be that useful. I have a number of Synapse Audio DUNE 2 and DUNE 3 preset banks and almost none of them have the patches correctly categorized. So I can't filter my presets by instrument type (bass, lead, synth, etc.) for instance.
Synapse Audio need to go back and update all their patch banks to assign an instrument category to every preset at the very least.

There is no avoiding some housekeeping when switching to a new patch handling system. All the Synapse Factory banks are properly categorized and always have been with sub-folders.
Which of their additional banks are not properly categorized? For example if it's World of Cinematic I assume it will be up to Kevin Schroeder to update his bank.
All sound designers are going to have to update their banks to work in the new system if they didn't use proper sub-folders. There is just no avoiding that.
I have hundreds of my own patches that I'm going to need to do some housekeeping on to function properly since I don't use sub-folders for my own patches instead preferring to use pre-tags for patch names.
The old system has not been eliminated so you can still use it until any banks that aren't categorized are updated. I'll probably still make use of the old system for my own patches since you can see over 200 patches at a glance and any patch is only two mouse clicks away.
If you can post a list of the banks sold by Synapse that aren't properly categorized it will help them know what needs to be updated.

I have Richard's email address. So I will let him know.Teksonik wrote: Sun Nov 14, 2021 12:18 pm If you can post a list of the banks sold by Synapse that aren't properly categorized it will help them know what needs to be updated.
Oh btw, even those preset banks that are sorted by instrument type under the old system, are not showing up fully categorized according to the new preset instrument type categories. Only a few instrument categories are showing up in the left sorting panel.

That would be helpful. I don't own any third party banks so don't know which ones need updating.

It's down to SA really, they are selling it.Teksonik wrote: Sun Nov 14, 2021 12:18 pm

Of course, buyers would have to redownload the banks to accommodate the new browser

Yes indeed, all our factory banks and all our expansions have always been fully categorized, both for NKS and for our browser. See image below as an example, all banks work like this.Teksonik wrote: Sun Nov 14, 2021 12:18 pm All the Synapse Factory banks are properly categorized and always have been with sub-folders.
So I assume this is about 3rd party banks, which are beyond our control. Note that even those are fairly easy to categorize using the drag+drop feature in the new browser. Some freebie bank I had downloaded had a rather weird way to sort presets, using multi-selection then drag+drop on categories it took me less than a minute to sort the whole thing

Then that's a different issue. All the categories should be there. If a patch resides in the proper sub-folder then it will show up when that category is chosen. It should look something line this: (I have added some of my own categories)Gadget Fiend wrote: Sun Nov 14, 2021 12:31 pm Oh btw, even those preset banks that are sorted by instrument type under the old system, are not showing up fully categorized according to the new preset instrument type categories. Categories that have patches inside are highlighted. Folders that are empty are darker. New categories can be added by using the .ini files.

For a few third party banks I had to add subfolders for the categorization to take place and one AZS bank (his third Dune3 bank, dont' remember the name right now), I had to add AZ to all the patch names.
Of course some Third Party Banks don't have author's until I do what Marcin said I should with the config.ini file.

The "Dune 2 Essential Collection Vol. 1" bank shows only the Leads and Pads instrument categories. Also, the "Rob Lee Dune 2 Essentials Vol. 1" bank doesn't show any of the instrument categories (they are all grayed out).Richard_Synapse wrote: Sun Nov 14, 2021 12:37 pm Yes indeed, all our factory banks and all our expansions have always been fully categorized, both for NKS and for our browser.
