Thanks.
I just opened this in 1.9 and see that the filter type is "off" on both and that send 2 is a delay which sounds. I opened it in XT and saw the same. That patch has only had moves in the git log since sep '18 and when i look in the XML the filter type is 0. Also running the latest XT nightly I hear the delay.

So would love a bit more information here! We've tested patch loading across versions pretty carefully and if we got it wrong would love to know!

No-one has done any real work on it this year that's correct. If there are other bears who would like to come out of hibernation, we can always add devs :)

Thanks for looking, I may do due diligence and reinstall both, check the presets etc and report back with sound samples etc if necessary.

Cheers.

Ok, I think it's project specific but can't quite figure out how...

I totally uninstalled both versions and deleted the remaining folders then reinstalled both (1.9 and an XT nightly from September). I recreated the part (just a simple pulse triggering the patch) in Reaper and switched between both versions playing the sine sequence 1 patch, both sound identical.

Cool.

I went back to my project, added XT to the track and switched between them again. XT sounds identical to the test above but 1.9 sounds different, as I thought it always did sound. I changed to a different patch then back to sin seq 1 and it sounds like XT...

So: when I load the project, it says it's sine seq 1 but it's a modified (corrupted?) version of it somehow. This was just me playing with patches so didn't edit it at all. I can't see anything in the midi events, program changes etc. I saved the patch and compared the xml to the factory version and there are certainly differences, I'll go through them later when my eyes aren't so tired. :)

TL;DR - the version of the patch in the project is different to the factory version, just not sure how that came to be.

Thanks for your time.

OK so sounds like 1.9 is corrupted in the reaper project somehow?

if you are willing to share your reaper file i'm sure evil or i would be happy to take a look. I could run it in the debugger during our soon-to-be-launched beta period for instance.

thanks for the feedback of course!

Either corrupted or changed somehow, I'm paranoid now that I did make changes but really don't think I did. :)

Thanks, I'll bundle it up when I get chance (may not be till the weekend).

Out of curiosity I wasn't sure how compatible patches are between the versions so tried loading the saved 1.9 xml into XT, worked perfectly, sounded as I imagined it should. Yay to patch compatibility.

Yeah we made it a real priority to keep patch compatibility. DAW track compatibility we couldn't do (hence the new ID) but fxp files should work between instances seamlessly. If they don't its a bug!

Hi folks

OK so after a long period of development and a couple of delays (we are 100% volunteer staffed after all!) we are super happy to start the Surge XT Beta Period.

You can grab the beta build of XT here: https://surge-synthesizer.github.io/nightly_XT
And you can read our draft changelog here: https://surge-synthesizer.github.io/nightlychangelog

But there's loads of new stuff. new audio capabilities (FX, Waveshapers, Filters), new ability to grapple with the modulators (Lua as a modulator! A full modulation overview!), new tuning tools and capabilities, lightning fast patch search, and we are 100% on JUCE so you get a standalone too! And that's just part of it.

We still have a few things outstanding to develop - especially in the screen reader support getting wrapped up - and also have new patches and content coming, but we think the main part of the synth is in great shape and ready for broader beta testing.

We hope to do a proper 1.0 release in mid January 2022, but that release will only be as good as the testing we get in the next 6 weeks, so if you want to, grab XT (it installs side by side with 1.9), and try and use it! If you have problems please drop them on our discord, on our GitHub, or here. Please just remember when you do to share your version (copyable from the about screen), OS and host.

And have fun!

Awesome!
Thank you, Paul & the Surge team!

Twice I have tried to download the 64bit Windows zip and both times it has been empty.

I just now grabbed it from https://github.com/surge-synthesizer/re ... ag/Nightly which is where the nightly page links to and it contained all the synths and none of the assets.

Where did you download from?

The same page. Tried again and still an empty zip.

Correction. It shows as 32.1 MB so it must contain something but it's invisible.

Weird! It seems Winzip won't read it but 7 Zip will. :?

There is so much stuff to get into here.
Massive thanks to all the development bods.
This is amazing!
