Any thoughts from the 1176 aficionados here on Lindell Audio’s 7X-500?

When I remember it correctly, BRA said that they used rather obscure revisions to offer something different.jens wrote:

Very interesting videos, I first thought it was Michael Brauer doing a plugin shoutout haha! All the 2A emulations behave differently, just listening to how some of the 2As clamp down on the attack of the acoustic guitar while others let some transients through .jens wrote: Tue Nov 09, 2021 8:22 pmIt's really odd - Ray has quite the reputation, however also the two BRA opto-emulations seem to be way off:MogwaiBoy wrote: Tue Nov 09, 2021 9:49 am but unfortunately the Black Rooster behaved like it was not even in the same 1176 family.
And it has to be said that most of the stuff which Ray emulates for FAL is so obscure that a shootout like this is rather unlikely to happen.
Ultimately, what's interesting is what they do to the tone of the instrument and the rhythm, the groove of the acoustic changes drastically from a 2A to the other. That's quite important because it kind of depends on what we want to emphasize in the track.
Also, they all seem to have a different sweet spot, it feels like you need to feed the Black Rooster Audio more input level in order for it to respond in the same way (or in the same ballpark) as the hardware. Their reference for calibration seems different from one compressor to ther other.

BR LA-2A came out in 2016 and LA-3A in 2017. I'm pretty sure RD has continued to learn and grow his coding and emulation skills in the meantime (not to mention the hardware modeled could have been fairly different from the person's that made the videos - old analog hardware had variations between units, but maybe not for these compressors).
Also, they may not be accurate emulations, but they still sound good.

As said, they said that they modeled rare revisions at least for the 1176 to offer something different. Sounds rather like a choice to me than lack of quality
