Yes it does. Google ransomware. Or Stuxnet (infected iranian nuclear plants via USB memstick).Dunbar wrote: Tue Nov 16, 2021 10:11 pmIf the DAW is offline, permanently, it doesn't matter if the files contain backdoors.cnt wrote: Tue Nov 16, 2021 9:33 am
...it would also affect people even if they download updates on a another computer and install via USB sticks... since the files are infected already.

My Amiga got a virus via a floppy disk back in the 90's. I didn't even have a hard drive at the time. The virus made itself resident in memory and infected any other floppies inserted.cnt wrote: Thu Nov 18, 2021 2:06 pmYes it does. Google ransomware. If there's a way in for data, that's also a way in for viruses/trojans.
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

Can someone change the name of this topic?
Every time it goes up I get excited to read about new features in C12 and I get dissapointed it's the same old thread about moving the release to 2022 and losing the dongle...

Cubase 12 seems to have slipped away somewhere. Its no longer mentioned on the website when you click "Buy Cubase 11". No mention of a free upgrade to Cubase 12 or a grace period or anything. Also, if you click on buy "Cubase 11", it tells you to buy a dongle, even though it is now technically obsolete.

It isn't until v12 is released later this year. Then you'll be able to use v11 without the dongle, but not yet.dellboy wrote: Wed Jan 12, 2022 12:22 pmAlso, if you click on buy "Cubase 11", it tells you to buy a dongle, even though it is now technically obsolete.

Steinberg stated that every still supported software will get the new licensing system. Whatever that means. They will not just roll it out, and then every software has it, automagically.
TBH, I don't know how they will do it, at all. My guess is that all future software will get new licensing, I really can't imagine they will do it for Steinberg Halion Orchestra, for example. Hopefully, I'll be surprised, but, I doubt it.

Interesting, you have a link to that statement.chk071 wrote: Wed Jan 12, 2022 12:36 pm Steinberg stated that every still supported software will get the new licensing system. Whatever that means. They will not just roll it out, and then every software has it, automagically.

This new license idea has opened up a whole new can of worms. I have already activated my Cubase 11 after November 9th so am in the grace period and will be entitled to Cubase 12 for free. But what happens to the license on the dongle? can I gift it to someone? Its now NFR. What happens if someone tries to sell the dongle with the license on it?
Its discussed here on the Cubase forum...............
