Didn't we establish that Fabfilter doesn't appear to do Black Friday sales but instead does a "Winter Sale" in mid-December? The KVR News indicates as much anyway.

I have been quite lucky since I got Volcano 2 quite recently and got free upgrade.
Overall I'm quite impressed. The combination of resonance and drive can make the filters sound really aggressive. Shade is quite neutral under this aspect. It has some resonant type of filters but none that can distort/saturate. Also the delay in parallel routing can create some really interesting flanging type of effect. That was also a feature in v2 to be fair.
Overall Shade still objectively wins in terms of modulation capabilities but in terms of sound Volcano can get quite filthy, even though it doesn't have special type of filters (comb, phaser etc). But to be fair I don't quite like phase/comb filters in Shade. I much prefer LFO Tool's ones.
My 2 cents

Yeah I'm a student, so the educational discount stacks on top of everything else. Pretty nuts, although I actually purchased a majority of their stuff before I became a student, so RIP.cptgone wrote: Thu Nov 18, 2021 9:22 pmFor a sec I thought I could get it for €36 IIRC, but that was with all the suggested purchases included. Once I unticked the option to buy every Fabfilter product I don't own, the price went up to almost €50 IIRC.Jkist wrote: Thu Nov 18, 2021 8:38 pm I can get this for $26 bucks with all my discounts...I guess thats pretty much a no-brainer at that point huh.
(I'm gonna wait for a BF deal, sorry Fabfilter, I have to economize)

Yeah you should be able to create a vowel formant with the bell filters

I stand correct. You can create a phaser with the allpass in parallel. NiceNomadMonad wrote: Thu Nov 18, 2021 10:17 pm even though it doesn't have special type of filters (comb, phaser etc)

And well also delay + allpass in parallel can get you quite close to a comb filter

I posted an audio example on Gearspace of Volcano 3 when used as a mixing utility tool. In case anybody wants to check it out, here's the link:

Valid.gondii wrote: Thu Nov 18, 2021 8:48 pmI'm not done testing it, it's just my first impression. Might still pick it up if the added sales discount is good enough. But the main reasons are that Shade has more "interesting" filter types for sound design. The modulation in Shade is extremely fun and I'm not the biggest fan of how Fabfilter handle it and I do prefer the work flow in Shade a bit. And also I just love the sound of the filters in Shade (I think they are from Falcon?). Just sound really good to me. I tried Volcano and Shade on the same source and ran a few presets through them and... well I just like Shade better I think.Ploki wrote: Thu Nov 18, 2021 7:02 pm How is it “better”?
I tested it and skipped on it and use volcano constantly.
It has more filters so what? You know how many Melda MWobbler has? Its even better. And you can load it into MXXX and its even more better
I for some reason love the sound of Fab’s filters and wanna buy twin2 just for the filters.
They have unique grit about them that just sings well with me.
And latching multiple parameters on the slider and just automating that is so much easier than having 4 lanes. Love it on timeless

The Drop?medienhexer wrote: Thu Nov 18, 2021 1:21 pmMy upgrade price was 38€. Not unhappy at all. If UVI make a fantastic offer, I might get that, too.jens wrote: Thu Nov 18, 2021 12:13 pmYou bet I'd much rather spent 80 on the full Shade license than 55 on the Volcano Upgrade... in fact if UVI offer a BF deal for it, my contempt for FF's style of business will serve as an additional inducement to purchase Shade.SLiC wrote: Thu Nov 18, 2021 10:51 am You could argue Shades replaces Pro Q and Volcano and is frequently on sale for less than $80... (was $79 on launch) so be interesting to see what they do for BF.![]()
Tbh, I could live with only one filter if that one could go from nice to nasty, both in resonance and saturation. I have not found that, yet.
