Wrong. They were 8 bit.

Mixing 8 bit samples into a 16 bit output stream was a big improvement, ca 1992.

I think the author of the video meant sunds of 16-bit computers like Amiga or Atari ST. I'm yet to watch it, so I'm not sure. Just guessing.

Sweet stuff... I "grew up" on the Amiga and this brings back memories... I got one of these Amiga trackers on a magazine disk and distinctly remember "Dirty Old Town" rendered in shitty 8-bit glory...

I used to wrap this 8-bit bad boy sampler in aluminum foil to help reduce background noise.

Noisetracker was where I made my first complete bit of electronic music. On an Amiga 500 back in the mid 90s. Around the same time I had my first access to this new "internet" thing via university so I'd spend my spare time downloading amiga demos and mod files, ripping out mods and samples from games and demos to build up my sample library. Good times. Eventually I switched to ProTracker and when the PC came knocking tried FastTracker II briefly before stopping with trackers.

Back then full motion video wasn't a thing with the Amiga so I'd often put on scene demos for the music and visuals. Found a couple of favourites on YouTube:
