Any point in me getting Win11?

Task Manager's Performance tab gives you current memory load and CPU load data etc. You don't have to mess with anything. I was talking about this ageing Win laptop that I use for internet and testing etc.

Yesterday I backed up up my old windows 10 and did a clean install of win 11. My first impression was that its a bit of a Linux\OSX\Windows hybrid.

I guess that for a person coming to windows for the first time it makes it easier - but for someone who has used windows for years some stuff can be a bit like - why? But overall I have tweaked it to be as close to the old win 10 as possible and its fine, I can get around no problem at all without reading any instructions.

No driver problems, or app problems - other than the tedious reinstall and license stuff, in fact no real problems of any type to speak of. I shall now stay on win 11. I think I quite like it.

I remember that congealed mayo sticking the ctrl button down creates f**king havoc. I know you are being facetious. But the rounded corners on windows and dialogs does give Windows 11 an improved appearance compared to the overly stark and squared-off look of Windows 10.

No, they don't for the simple reason everything inside those rectangles still has sharp corners. e.g. the Minimise, Maximise and Close buttons. It looks like someone has applied the wrong alpha channel to the window, it is not at all well implemented. It works in macOS because those buttons are little circles but in Win11 it looks like somebody f**ked up.

In Windows 8 it is, indeed, the Start Screen. I have explained to you why that is such a clever innovation but what you have conspicuously failed to do is provide any insight into what, exactly, you believe is wrong with it. I could, for example, tell everyone that you are the ugliest man who has ever lived but I can't prove it, so it would be meaningless and pointless, much like your argument here.

If you want to contribute anything of value, you need to be able to back it up. Just read what I've said about the rounded window borders as an example - I haven't just said they are bad, I've pointed out what it is that makes them bad in a way that anyone who cares to look at them can see for themselves.

Jesus, how often are you accessing the Task Manager? According to BONES, Microsoft has caught up with Apple and there is no need to frequently mess with system settings and the like in the modern Windows experience.

Did you not see where he said he keeps it open so he can see what his CPU usage is like? That makes perfect sense to me, although it's not something I worry about so I don't do it myself. Mind you, it's probably easier just to pin Resource Monitor to your Taskbar if you want to use it regularly.

I just accidentally discovered a new feature in win 11 that hovering over the middle restore\maximize button in the top right corner of any open explorer folder has a number of options to split the screen. If you hover over the first one it splits the screen. The others do the same but in different sizes. Its a simple clever Mac like device that makes life simpler.

After wasting time fiddling with this new feature I find it frustrating. Sometimes it works, other times it just disappears. It would have been great if you just click on the four box icon and it allowed you to drag and drop stuff into the boxes, but it does not do that. Its more than possible that I am not doing this incorrectly. Shame, as it would have been useful.

It does work. You first need to open up as many explorer folders that you need by right clicking the explorer icon in the taskbar and selecting them. So for instance, open four explorer folders and then hover over the restore\maximize button and select the four box option and drag stuff around as needed. You can also do it with browsers if you open a number of them from the start menu. You can also mix and match browsers and explorer windows.

There is a similar 3rd party utility for the Mac called Moom that lets you select different window layouts (e.g., left/right split screen, upper/lower split screen, etc.) by hovering over the Mac's window maximize control (the green button in the upper left corner of Finder windows). Moom even lets you draw window sizes/positions according to a global user-defined screen grid. It's very handy. I'll have to check out Windows 11 Explorer window layout/sizing controls.

There are lots of square favicons inside the rounded Chrome browser tabs (on the Mac). The world has not come to an end as a result of this.

If you can't figure out what is wrong with the Windows 8/10 Start Screen, you are a pretty much a lost cause when it comes to usability. The sooner you just accept that this Start Screen debacle was the biggest UI blunder of all time, the sooner you will be ready to live in a reality-based world.
