Hello!
I've got some (acoustic) drum tracking coming up that will need comping and editing afterwards. The last batch I did with Reaper which was ok, but the comp handling is fairly painful at times.
That said, I know Reaper fairly well.
I've had S1 artist for months, but barely used it out of laziness, but the comping/editing looks lie it might be better than Reaper.
The rest of the mix has been done on Reaper, but I don't mind using S1 for the drums and then lashing together afterwards.
Anybody have experience of drum tracking in S1, or ideally both S1 and Reaper?

Why won't you just try tapping household objects, record that and see how the recording, comping, quantizing and editing workflow fits what you need?ZargonTheMagnificent wrote: Sat Nov 20, 2021 12:20 pmAnybody have experience of drum tracking in S1, or ideally both S1 and Reaper?
I find S1 very intuitive for that, but I can't compare to Reaper which I find repulsive as a DAW.
(also, not sure if all relevant features ara available in S1 Artist)

Yeah tapping is a good tip and one that I've been doing for a little bit today. S1 does seem pretty great in terms of ease compared to Reaper. Artist doesn't seem to be missing anything that I'd need for drum tracing/editing. Or anything else actually!antic604 wrote: Sat Nov 20, 2021 12:33 pmWhy won't you just try tapping household objects, record that and see how the recording, comping, quantizing and editing workflow fits what you need?ZargonTheMagnificent wrote: Sat Nov 20, 2021 12:20 pmAnybody have experience of drum tracking in S1, or ideally both S1 and Reaper?

Does the FX nap thing cause issues?

At the moment, if you’re going to have to do multitrack drum edits, I’d use S1. Comping is currently one of the weaker aspects of Reaper. Though there’s been some active development pointing to a new comping system in the works. Just not ready yet.
S1 handles comps much more smoothly at the moment.

What does that have to do with recording, comping, quantizing and editing?
Also, you can turn it off (it's off by default).

It has nothing to do with it. I was just asking since you're an S1 user and I wanted to know. Feel free to not answer!!antic604 wrote: Sat Nov 20, 2021 6:27 pmWhat does that have to do with recording, comping, quantizing and editing?

Ooh that would be a very welcome change. I love the way comping is done in Logic and Live. I'm happy Reaper has this at all (looking at YOU FL Studio AHEM). But if they could improve it further to be as fast and intuitive as the aforementioned, that would be fantastic.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Sat Nov 20, 2021 3:52 pm At the moment, if you’re going to have to do multitrack drum edits, I’d use S1. You can be sure it will not take so much time until the team got this sorted as well and quite soon there will be the time when we will say..."looking at you Reaper/Cubase/S1/Ableton/Bitwig/Logic ProTools/etc... AHEM AHEM"Jkist wrote: Sat Nov 20, 2021 11:33 pm Ooh that would be a very welcome change. I love the way comping is done in Logic and Live. At the moment they are doing a fantastic job to integrate all the nice features from linear DAWs without destroying the original options...
And this will end up quite soon of having 2 DAWs in one... all the goodies from the linear ones but on top of that all that stuff where FL Studio always shined and was long ahead of all others...
So everybody should be careful with dissing FL Studio as very soon it will be far more than just a serious competitor... at least for all creative creators...
In regards of rock/band recording or orchestral stuff in general this will (hopefully) never be a main task...
This minority we will happilly leave to the DAWs left behind...
