+1 for TDR stuff.
I recently tried out CarveEQ and SliceEQ by Kilohearts. These two are no-nonsense and worth a look, too.

I have Pro-Q 3 and that should be my workhorse EQ. But I have to admit, that my DAW‘s stock EQs do their Job very well (at least in Ableton and FL Studio) and they are of course kind of better integrated while having low CPU print (dunno if lower than Pro-Q). So honestly for „workhorse“-EQing no external plugin would be needed.

The AI assisted stuff will eventually bite you back: if you don’t know (without an eq telling you) what to eq in a track, you wont know intimately how the final mix should sound so it will keep back your ear training and experience imhowackob wrote: Sat Sep 18, 2021 8:57 am Does anyone here have an opinion on Sonible’s Smart EQ 3? Considering buying it since I love AI assisted stuff, gives you a nice quick starting point.

I want to get Pro-Q3 as my workhorse. I have used it before and its so flexible but right now I'm rocking the F6 from Waves. Very good alternative and you get pretty much everything you need aside from it only being 6 bands which is really the only downside. Also the Maag 4 is really good for clean high end and toning. I use it on vocals a lot and occasionally on melodies. Really I should use it more for the sound of it but F6 is habit at this point lol I highly recommend if you cant afford Q3 quite yet!

Just +1'ing Pro-Q, it's been my workhorse EQ for well over a decade. Most often, it's the only EQ I'll use in a project. As in, I don't remember when I last used some other EQ. (Ah! Must have been in August, last year, when I did my most recent OSC tune. In those, in turn, the norm for me is always just basic DAW-bundled EQ, haven't tried to find a freeware go-to.)
Pro-Q has also evolved nicely in that time, and the dynamic functionality introduced in version 3 is something I tend to reach for, first, if in need of dynamic EQ. And as there is already a Pro-Q instance on the channel most likely anyway, quickly setting a dynamic band there on the fly if needed, instead of instantiating something else, is just dang convenient

DMG Audio EQuality, or EQuick. My two go-tos.
If it were easy, anybody could do it!

Pro Q3. Light on cpu, sound clean, have a super useful 4.5db spectrum analyser and it's interface is gorgeous. Couldn't be better.

They all have their strengths and weaknesses, but Acon Digital Equalize 2 is the one I've been using the most lately (in mixed phase mode). I might switch to another one at some point, but I really dig its workflow and simplicity. Other than that, I've been using stock EQs.
