I'm quite certain it is some kind of dance music, but i don't know what it sounds like.

I have "Remedy" from Basement Jaxx, and I love it. It's pretty much what i think of when i hear the word "house".

But what is Acid House? Must have to do something with the 303, but I don't have any imagination what it sounds like?

Could you recommend any album that is pure House and well characterizes the style?

It will be very difficult to recommend one particular album or record to define an entire genre, especially since real house music is all about the 12" single or a collection of such. You will need to seek out dj mixes to ascertain the true definition of house.

These days house music is a huge scope of sounds and you will promote endless arguments from purists as to what true house music really is. "Remedy," while is a good representation of how far you can stetch the boundaries of house.

There is also a growing generation gap now that house is arguably approaching it's third decade of existence.

On the internet, it's like this: for the newer house sound go here:

http://www.undergroundhouse.net/

and for an older, more classic sound go here:

http://deephousepage.com/

And actually on the home page of deephousepage is one of the original creators of house and acid house, Larry Heard.

Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music isn't supposed to be educative but it might give you an idea of what house sounds like. He covers just about all styles of house and there are audio samples.

I would get Daft Punk "Homework", some Armand Van Helden remixes, dimitri from paris, Mark Farina, Dj Dan, Masters at Work, Derrik Carter, Dj Sneak, Erik Morrillo and maybe some dubtribe and Larry Levan. ACTUALLY TO ANYONE WHO DOES NOT KNOW... LARRY LEVAN IS THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sorry...

of course i still think i am living in 1998 or 88 or 78. To be honest, i have not listened to house music in years... but, the above listed Dj's provide me with a good cross section of house music when i do some dj sets or whatever. Basement Jaxx can produce a few winners also.

There is a Tech-House sound which i find appealing. Also I enjoy Chicago House, French House and New York House sounds (see above). But really the Armand Van Helden basslines created a new genre. ok, i am rambling

peace to the world and dont hate me because i'm an american

Oh, and Acid House is one hell of a depressing style of electronic music. Listen to 808 state. I'm not sure whether it's acid house or acid techno or acid trance or acid crunk or whatever, it's all the same. I guess it will give you an idea(or, better yet, check the guide I mentioned in my other post)

Oh, and while Basement Jaxx DO make house music, I wouldn't call it PURE house music. It's not about being elitist or anything. They just have a unique sound I have never heard from other producers.

Oh, and it's enough oh's for now. I'm getting quite annoying.

There's always the mighty WikiPedia.

I don't find Acid House depressing at all. It's wonderfully quirky, funky uplifting music. A tad harsh at times, very minimal, but at the end of the day it's still House Music All Night Long.

Indeed it is.
Speaking of House Music, that picture of you in Luxor- when was that taken?
Chances are some of my friends were dancing to your music back then.

If 1994, 1995 and 1996 were some of those 7 years, they certainly have.

Acid house used to make me smile....enormously as I remember it. :P In fact it can be quite funky if done well.
And 808 State...Acid House? Huh? Where'd you learn that? I don't remember 808 State ever using a 303 in their tracks....Some of the raves I went to, the DJ would've been hanged if he put on any 808 State.

In fact the DJs should just be hanged anyway for the fun of it... :hihi:
