Fwiw, these are frogs, recorded with a smartphone, just tripled, bounced and slapped into my IR loader of choice (and trimmed/faded to 3.5 seconds there as well). You can hear them doing their thing on the "rake" in the end.

Logic's Space Designer has 4 quality modes, high, medium, low and lo-fi. I'd guess that internally, this deals with the (re-)samplerate - earlier SD incarnations even had SR numbers rather than those labels.
Anyhow, quality of the recording used for the IR hasn't got much to do with the quality of the effect - at least not directly. In fact, noisy recordings are better for a dense reverb effect. Nothing too strange, though, considering that the "ideal" reverb is pretty much sounding like volume shaped and filtered white/pink noise. You can actually build your own rooms using just noise (it's a little tricky to get a wide stereo field that way, though).
This is also why anything sounding sort of close to noise makes for a nice IR. Seashores, showers, rain, etc. And - well - frogs. Anything less noisy will turn out delay-ish. Fwiw, it's also a nice thing to create rhythmic delays out of drum grooves. Yeah, you can't adjust delay times freely, so this is rather a per-song thing, but things are set up quite quickly. Bounce a drum groove, slap it into your IR loader, done.
Here's an example of an electric piano, first dry, then through a drumloop IR:

Even tonal IRs can suit some purposes, but obviously your harmonic choice will be limited. I can post another example later on, in case anyone's interested.

Here's another one, crushing a plastic liquorice bag, again recorded with my smartphone (then doubled, bounced, volume shaped in Space Designer). The IR sounds like this:

Some noodling through it:

Oh yeah, I've done all that Had a lot of fun making frequency resonators with band pass filtered noise! sonically complex IRs triggered by different frequency ranges.. I sometimes bounce a bit of a song, and trigger that with drums to add textural layers.
Space Designer has that rate resampling which is just halves and doubles the speed of impulse playback, which is cool, but I'm interested in sample-and-hold and bit-depth reduction feature within the convolution-add operation. Being able to modulate a redux algorithm on the IR would be cool, I think.
It sounds cool in my head, I promise!

I recommend fooling around with some Shepard tone IRs. Doesn't even have to be a Shepard tone literally, any sweeping tones do a nice job, in case you tweak them around a bit. A great plugin to create Shepard-alike textures is Corkscrew from Anarchy Effects (I recommend getting their other offerings as well, they're free):
https://plugins4free.com/plugin/1867/
With Shepard tone-ish IRs, there's always gonna be some resonances, but unlike with "fixed" tonal IRs (such as a chordal drone), those resonances will just briefly show up and then dissapear again. Almost makes up for a kind of filtered modulation effect (even if IRs can't represent modulation).

I've really been enjoying the guitar cabinet IR packs from Drums and Tones lately. Most IR manufacturers focus either on raw captures or processed, mix-ready captures. While raw captures are great for just jamming around, they can take some work to fit into a final mix. The converse is true with processed IRs, which are time-savers when mixing, but can be grating when used in a general jamming situation. I find that these nail the perfect balance between them are the best of both worlds.

Looking for IRs from television speakers, like CRT televisions not modern ones. An old computer monitor is a poor second choice. There are some TV IRs embedded in Audiothing Speakers and Plogue Chipcrusher, but both seem to be proprietary about sharing. There is one in a Trash 2 pack, and one in the 7deadlysins bundle, and I found one commercial set by Magical Room on Gumroad. I went through my IR archive from top to bottom. Nothing in Fokke van Saane's nice Speakers and Telephones bundle. Is anyone aware of any other sources for TV specific (or computer monitor) IRs?
The Sony Trinitron impulse in Audiothing Speakers is perfect, but it's stuck inside the plugin. I need to be able to share an IR file with a collaborator and work with a stock convolution reverb. I'll probably buy the Magical Room pack, but I'm not convinced by the demo that it'll meet my current needs. They all seem too saturated. Was hoping for something cleaner.
I came across this IR pack that doesn't seem to have been mentioned here. One of those might work.

If you can bypass anything else in the plugin, you could re-capture that impulse easily. Just send a Dirac impulse through it, bounce and re-trim.

There are some CRT TVs in Speakerphone - starting page 40 of the manual

Thanks for the suggestion. Exactly what I needed. Well except the first time I sent the output from the plugin as hot as I could, thinking what will that do. My wet/dry curve in the convolution reverb had about 5% dry mix before it went fully wet. Now I know. Went back and set the output volume to a more neutral setting and that made all the difference for dialing in the convolution over a longer curve.Sascha Franck wrote: ↑Fri Dec 31, 2021 8:49 am If you can bypass anything else in the plugin, you could re-capture that impulse easily.
