I'm unable to do a GM map, i get always "Cannot open selected map. Check that all included instruments are installed."
and all instruments are in default folder C:\Program Files\SampleTank 2\STInstruments
When will we have this bug corrected ?
please ?
Thanks for any advice.

Hi dramsenik,
This error happens in two cases:
1. A file name is not spelled perfectly.
2. An instrument preset has an user(child) preset.
The second error is definitely a bug...
The MidiMap does accept Child-Presets.
Now here comes the really wierd part, if you save an instrument preset(e.g. 074FLUTE) as an user(child) preset with exactly the same name as the instrument preset, then the MidiMap works fine
P.S. If you happen to own the SS1 group buy, there are some MidiMap presets, including a GM-map, on www.asseca-pt.net

Hi Asseca,
So come my next question:
Do you use ST DXi in BIAB? because ST doesn't seem to respond to Program Change from BIAB ?
Seems also that we like the same toys...
Yes... it was my case i tried with non child-presets and it work ! i'm able to load the map now, thanks!2. An instrument preset has an user(child) preset.

Hi dramsenik,
I use ST2 as a VSTi plugin in eXT linked via MidiYoke-2 to BiaB in RealTime.
See my website on more info...
I do not use any Dxi plugins, too many complicated problems with them.
There is a serious problem with ST2 Program Changes combined with e.g. BiaB:
Also it would have helped if ST2 had the intelligence in recognizing which sounds have been loaded, not been modified and therefore does not need to be reloaded again...
BTW dramsenik, do you only have ST2XL or do you also have SS1 ??

- When you load a song in BiaB, BiaB sends Program Change messages for all Midi channel in use, which in turn will force ST2 to load all sounds.
- When you press "Play" in BiaB, it send the Program Change messages again, which in turn will force ST2 to load all sounds again, (taking up to 40 seconds in some cases)

I only have ST2XL, in fact i was somewhat really disappointed by it. I bought it ONLY to have good sounds from BIAB and i had to wait 6 month for the DXi bug (DXi was inusable in all first ST versions)and support wasn't responding...(Same for Program Change bug...)I think this ended my relation with IK.dramsenik, do you only have ST2XL or do you also have SS1
Time has passed since and i calmed down(and i bought DirectiXer...)But i'm always a little frightened to buy something else from them.
Now i'm glad i have it. I like the direct warm sound you have from it, the ability to change the sound fast with FX, Stretch is really good. I found that with one sampled instrument you can make hundreds of presets who sounds good.
For what i know SS1 is a rompler(like ST) with synth sounds???(my guess...maybe i'm wrong).
And synths i have plenty of them Absynth, Reaktor, Reason, Pro53, FM7, etc. which is largely enough for me.(I'm a bassist and not a keyboard player: what a shame...)
I saw your site, Nice!
For me my main use of BIAB is learning songs and to train my instrument. I just want good sounds from BIAB just because i use it so much 3-4 hours every days.
Because of the Program Change issue i'm thinking of buying the Edirol Sound Canvas SD-80...this will be probably my next purchase.

dramsenik,
SS1 ( Sonic Synth 1 ) is a rompler which is now replaced by SS2. SS1 contains mainly acoustic instruments and can be used directly in ST2. I purchased SS1 in the group buy, which included OmniSynth, also bought the 5 eRoms. This, together with my recent purchase of ST2XL gives an impressive array af acoustic instuments. For an amateur keyboard player this gives me ample possibilities...

Hello Asseca,
To extend my library i was thinking to invest in Sonik Capsule: Acoustic Guitar, Bass, etc. do you think that SS1 or 2 is better?
thanks !!!
Interesting, how good are the sounds compared to the XL library?SS1 contains mainly acoustic instruments and can be used directly in ST2

Hi dramsenik,
I get the feeling you are interested in acoustic instruments.
The 5 eRoms and OmniSynth I have correspond to the new expansion tanks from Sonic Reality see http://www.sonicreality.com/products2.p ... =expansion for complete specs.
I am still not sure if SS2 contains all the sounds of SS1. I think we need Squids' advice on that.
Personally I find SR to be very good at acoustic pianos, acoustic guitars, acoustic drums, strings and bass. To be honest I was really impressed with the SR stuff. ST2XL on the other hand I find has better brass and sax sounds.
Most demos and samples of SS2 I have heard so far concentrates on synths and pads.
Given the quality of the eRoms/SR Expansion Tanks, the Sonic Capsules should be excellent buys...
RE: SD-80, if I listen to the mp3 samples of the SD-80, they do not sound as dynamic as the ST2 + SS1 + eRoms. I expect the quality 9GB samples should also be better than a limited hardware synth...
However, we are still stuck with the MIDI program change problem.

Hello Asseca,
Effectively now there's a lack of expansion tank or capsule for brass and winds instr.
For the sounds of SD-80 i found them really good even if ST sound much warmer and has an overall sound more round, my feeling is that the sounds of the SD-80 are more distinct, clear and a little less compressed.
But it's a matter of taste and well demos are demos, difficult to judge without knowing the settings.
We should compare pure samples and quality of FX.
And 9Gb of sample give you more choice that's sure but you have also some instruments that "weight" less than a mega in the STXL library...who sounds nontheless good.
I think it is the main purpose of ST it's why i bought it.I get the feeling you are interested in acoustic instruments

Maybe linked with EXT there is a way to send manualy the first Progam Change, (send patches from BIAB) and after you can filter the Program Change messages, i will try that. Of course changing patches during the songs will still be an issue.we are still stuck with the MIDI program change problem.
