Arturia V8 Collection or Syntronik 2 Max?

I'm thinking some responders here haven't taken Syntronik 2 out for a proper test drive. The underlying synth engine is much improved. I would recommend V-Collection 8 over Syntronik 2 regardless, but Syntronik 2's capabilities and quality of the sound is not properly represented here. It sounds amazing. Try the CATO presets and your jaw will drop.

It just depends on whether you want authentic (i.e., sampled) sound quality or weak sauce software models (that do provide more flexibility at the expense of authenticity).zerocrossing wrote: Sat Dec 04, 2021 3:37 pm Another vote for V Collection. Syntronik is great if you are just a preset player and just want a bunch of classic sounds, but V Collection is so much more.

That's ok, 90% of the people on here are only interested in knob twiddling and have no interest in sound quality unless there's aliasing present, then they're all over it.Scotty wrote: Sat Dec 04, 2021 4:35 pm...but Syntronik 2's capabilities and quality of the sound is not properly represented here. I was actually going to make a similar statement yesterday, I have V Collection 8 and Syntronik 1 Deluxe and would not sell the latter precisely because of how good it sounds. Layer up a couple or three patches in one instance and tell me it does not sound good, as much as I hate to use these buzzwords it can sound very "analog" and "warm". It's a worthy tool in the toolbox, get it cheap if you don't want to spend a fortune and keep it in your plugins folder. No need to pick one or the other.Scotty wrote: Sat Dec 04, 2021 4:35 pm ..but Syntronik 2's capabilities and quality of the sound is not properly represented here. It sounds amazing.

The people who really care about sound quality are on the hardware forums, why have something sampled or virtual when you can have the real thinglotus2035 wrote: Sat Dec 04, 2021 6:39 pmThat's ok, 90% of the people on here are only interested in knob twiddling and have no interest in sound quality unless there's aliasing present, then they're all over it.Scotty wrote: Sat Dec 04, 2021 4:35 pm...but Syntronik 2's capabilities and quality of the sound is not properly represented here. They're all losers. The REAL REAL people who care about quality design and build their own valve synths. Anything less is worthless compromise.SLiC wrote: Sat Dec 04, 2021 6:47 pmThe people who really care about sound quality are on the hardware forums, why have something sampled or virtual when you can have the real thinglotus2035 wrote: Sat Dec 04, 2021 6:39 pmThat's ok, 90% of the people on here are only interested in knob twiddling and have no interest in sound quality unless there's aliasing present, then they're all over it.Scotty wrote: Sat Dec 04, 2021 4:35 pm...but Syntronik 2's capabilities and quality of the sound is not properly represented here. Syntronik really isn’t bad, it just is what it is. If you enjoy sculpting basic oscillator sounds with effects, it might be the best sounding option available. If you want to do something like modulate one of the oscillators that’s synced to the other by a parameter sequence… you’re out of luck.W23 wrote: Sat Dec 04, 2021 1:17 am Gee, I feel better already. I think I’ll still avoid Sample Tank and Syntronik (for reasons already noted) but thanks for setting me straight.

Those people are losers too, if they’re not using NOS valves and instead using modern valves.noiseboyuk wrote: Sat Dec 04, 2021 7:58 pmThey're all losers. While we’re bashing things, the V Collection is chock full of dull sounding emulations that haven’t changed since George W. Bush was president. It’s still worth it because the price is right and the modern stuff is great, but man, if you want a decent CS-80 sound, you’ll have to look somewhere else.

This is true. Luckily, few people actually want a CS-80 sound.zerocrossing wrote: Sat Dec 04, 2021 8:59 pm While we’re bashing things, the V Collection is chock full of dull sounding emulations that haven’t changed since George W. After avoiding Arturia for years since I'm a U-he fanboy, I finally demod most of their synths and I'm kind of blown away by the quality. I was expecting mid 2000s rob papen soft synth quality, but some of the synths like SEM and Modular sound amazing. I'm not sure how accurate they are to the hardware. They do have good low end, don't sound too thin and fit in a mix pretty well.
I also just tried out Syntronik 2. It's not amazing, but not terrible either. It is certainly louder than the Arturia stuff. I'm not sure why the Arturia's stuff are relatively more quiet to other Synths. I guess they're trying to represent the actual volume.
Regarding Syntronik, is it just sampled sounds with emulated filters? Or is there some oscillator emulation also?

Why does something have to be better than something else? It’s all in the eye / ear of the user. If one or other works for you then go for it. It’s all subjective until someone ultimately defines ‘best’

I wonder what happens if I press this button...
