I also tryed the Sonar 4 Demo and it looks quite slick....but i didnt see anything that made me feel waanting....

the drag and drop inserts effects is somthing i have wanted in Cubase for a long time and that made me a little jelous....(silly as they have it in Wavelab but not Cubase) ..

but that was it....

i just feel happy being with a DAW that does everything eany other DAW does if not more....and has been going strong for over 20 years ...somthing about Sonar..Logic...you wonder if they will still be the same app in a year or twos time...

i say good old cubase! ...dont forget when people say Nuendo they are talking Cubase...its just Nuendo sounds better when your bigging your gear up :)

How about those of us who are laptop based?
I think Logic is hyped and charge way to much, Logic and Sonar's Audio engines are not as good as SX

WHat od you mean exactly when you say their audio engines are not as good? Can you give technical information to explain your claim?
and not sure about Sonar but Logic is still not with it with PDC..
Yes, SOnar does have full PDC and has done for several years before Cubase. Also to put this in context, $80 Tracktion has full PDC and had it before Cubase! And you're right that Logic STILL doesn;t have it :o
Once Cubase SX3 squishes its bugs with a couple builds it really will be killer ....

erm...yes
Hi ..didnt know this was the same thread as some of my other posts! :)

if you use a Lap top you are still fine....lap tops are just as strong as Desk tops nowerdays....and it will not ONly run on 64 bit..this is what i have been told by a very pro friend

and about the Audio Engine ...i dont know the ins and outs...but Logics is meant to be about 13 years old...where Cubase have the same one as Nuendo which has one sevral awards....over Pro Tools and is fast become the DAW to use in many TV studios and so on...

was not aware Sonar had Full PDC
I have allways been told Sonar has allways been behind the pack ...Sonar 4 has been the best so far

on the video when they went on about a few new things in Sonar 4, i am like "big deal, Cubase has had that for ages"....so on

Thanks for the reply!

I'm in a curious position really, because I have a great liking for Cubase and Sonar - both great programs - but I'm no longer convinced I need either...

...Adobe Audition has the best audio recording and editing I have ever come across. Whatever DAW I might use I will still have to use the noise reduction etc in Audition because I'm crap at recording things properly! So I might as well record in Audition in the first place!

With its ReWire host capability, I can then bring in Live 4 or Reason for any MIDI stuff I want to do.

Also being classically trained I'm well into notation, and Sibelius leaves both Cubase and Sonar in the dust when it comes to scoring.

SO I now have an odd "workflow" where I often start a piece in Sibelius, save as MIDI and reopen in Live/Reason to assign sounds (usually NN-XT) and sequence drum parts, etc, before making the arrangement (usually in Live). And then add vocals/etc and mix/master in Audition. Strange, but true!

Also each of these programs is a remarkably stable piece of engineering!

I realise that in either Cubase or Sonar I could do the whole thing in one place - but not with such good results, I think.

About full PDC:
Logic will never get it unless it limits its routing capabilities. You can create feedback loops in logic. You cannot create feedback loops if using PDC. And that's that :)

except you can creat them in tracktion - and it has pdc - i beleive it notices when it starts looping round and then stops using pdc on those areas

Post

i don't believe that you can make feedback loops in tracktion. maybe if you use something like senderella it's possible, but i don't think there's a good result from it.

if you use rack filters, you can't connect an output from a filter to an input of a preceding filter in the chain.
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

Post

but within the filter you can connect round and round and round

but someone suggested that they ahve another kind of track in logic - a pdc one that has some limitations on where it can be connected - that would work

Post

what do you mean within the filter? the filter is the smallest piece visible to tracktion. inside a rackfilter you can't go backwards.
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

I think its safe to say that if you have ..

Sonar4, Cubase SX3, Logic 7.....and any other modern DAW then you are in a great place to make great music.

I'd say that you are in a great place to make great music if you got the ideas, a good daw and just one of the following:
Cubase, Podium, Logic, Sonar, Tracktion, energyXT, muzys, Orion, Renoise, Aodix etc etc. Most hosts are really good, just different from each other.

Yep. We're all spoilt!

And I think Tracktion 2 may well be able to compete with the big boys... T1 is great for the price and has created quite a stir.

and why is it that we cant seem to get this fact through our heads. why does one host have to "suck" because it doesnt suit your needs? why is everything a competition?

Because that hosts sucks? Sonar for instance.
