Hmmm I'm thinking about that correlation 'tween band pass filters and graphics... sort of but..
when I had my live rig I came out of the mixer into Klark Technics :dog: teknik 31 (or was it 33) band graphics into DBX160 .. not sure Id use a 914 to correct for live room work.. ;) (that was back in late 1970's/1980's well before Behringer bought them.. the EQs were inductor type.. really so musical.. I kick my butt now, a few weeks ago a Technics :dog: teknik (before name change) a dual 11 band went for £180.. at the time I was nah.. now I .. oh fk nostalgia>> )
yeah.. gonna get me a Surge for £47>> :shug :$55/60 :P
Yeah, it was an over simplification. There are many differences between the 914 and the typical graphic EQ for mixing or speaker correction. There are some graphic EQs which are inductor based, like the 914 but still the intended application is certainly different. I just thought that it was a useful comparison, 'cause I'm sure we all have had experience making strange curves on a graphic EQ, just to hear what it would do to the sound. :phones:

Incidentally, a good friend of mine has a rack EQ made by Moog. It's a 3-band parametric and if I remember correctly they were all peak filters. It was a little noisy but it distorted really nicely.
Edit: Oh I didn't realize Moog made a 10 band graphic EQ in the same format as the 3-band parametric. Here is an interesting comparison of couple of the different Moog filter banks...

Going to ask a thick question. Not having a modular, but using software versions, I’ll nearly always want to add some modulation to give filters some life, but the 914 is just a fixed bank, so what’s the attraction of it over other filters that you can automate via cv?
Ive already got multiple CV-able filters that do bandpass, including the Doepfer A-127, so for me this is for a different kind of filtering; resonances as a result of a physical space dont change over time, so this is in that territory. Right now I expect to get the most use between oscillators and distortion->filtering, or in feedback loops, in both cases doing something 'similar-ish' to an acoustic space (instrument body or room respectively)
Something with more control over the fixed frequencies would obviously be more flexible, but you aint gonna get that for less than £50, Im sure...
Prototype misanthrope to those who understand neither of those words.

Precisely. And as toonertik said, it's the 'hands-on' (sculpting) aspect that I really love about this filter (well, two of them). They beg for hours worth of mindless knobage-twiddling while playing with noise sources, and are absolutely ace for feedback related goodness with other filters, reverbs, the MN Echophon, and dialing in/out specific frequencies to feed into MI Rings and delays, for example.

The panel size and layout on this makes finessing several bands at the same time not at all difficult, and that can be augmented by using the old rubber-band trick between the knobs (either a straight loop, or twisted into an infinity shape) making multiple (4-6) band manipulation easy. :tu:

Yes, I know what you meant. I just think it's one of those intriguing modules that sometimes you can't really tell if it's broken, or 'feature-rich'. Sounds awesome, regardless.

I’ve almost bought Quadrantid Swarm several times because it looks fun. I’m actually proud of my restraint (and am patting myself on the back as I type this). I figured it’d be best to use all the goodies I’ve accumulated this year over adding on.

Plus I’m on the hunt for guitar tone and fx tools again.

Right now I keep refreshing the delivery status on Delay Llama which still shows it’s in Greece.

Same. Like a few others here (you know who you are) I still have several things that are sitting in their boxes. (some for months) :dog:

I've been controlling/sequencing it with the Pro3 and routing it into the ext. IN.
It's gonna be a nice addition :D But still a lot to learn - like what midi control CCs to each knob; consistently switching from mono to poly mode; patch cable placement for different effects; etc.
Love it's spring reverb- very old skool!
