Scales - do you change or can you change the scale midsong?

If you do chord progressions are these in the same scale still or do they change the scale?

Sometimes they change the scale (tonality).
This piece is an example of a constantly change of tonality (or scale)
Simple départ

The theme consist of 16 bars with 8 chords, each chord going over 2 bars.
Each chord has its own tonality:
F#6 - F# major scale
Fmaj7 - F major scale
E9 sus4 - E mixolydisch
C#9 sus4 - C# mixolydisch
Cmin 9 - C dorian
A (add9) - A major
C9 (#11 no3) - C lydian
Bb9 (#11) - Bb whole tone scale

As I wrote this theme, a long time ago, I just followed what I heard in my head and I was not trying to constantly change the tonality.

So I ran those chords thru my setup and while I have a ton of session players to choose from (Apple Loops), I would spend hours to find not the right combination but many right combinations.
I used an outside session player (non-Apple Loop) and modified it from the original software generated after I MIDI recorded it.

So the idea of using Green Apple Loops as session players actually came from watching Steely Dan ~ Aja ~ Classic Albums Documentary

Question, doesn't Reaper have scripting as well.

It does, and possibilities are extensive - literally. If you're into programming, REAPER can be quite a playground

Personally I'm not a skilled programmer, and while my REAPER workflows already depend on my own scripts to some extent, I'm not yet very good at applying scripting to algorithmic composition.

I might take a look at that then.

Suppose you like how a pianist performed a song a certian way, meaning, they played with intense feeling.
How about taking that performance and apply a new chord progression.

That's a very good question as a lot of music, parciularly recent music do not change much. But you can have, for example in baroque fugues, the melody "changing scale" or modulating from after a few notes only, before the answer is given ! So do not hesitate ! It's fun !

Hmmmm. I didn't have a job before 1972, child labor laws and that (actually I did work for whatever pocket money I had since around age 8 and it wasn't always real light work). $2.25 an hour. You won't be far wrong.
