What happens if I'm subscribed to NI's Sounds.com? Surely they're going to merge the two services.

So I wonder why people are getting their panties into a bunch... Perpetual licenses are staying unchanged and available and there are no plans to remove that at all. Subscription here is just another option, another entry point, nothing else. And this was mentioned a number of times in the past few years.
For now. Business plans might change in future. And if you look at what's going on with Reason and Izotope, subscribers get updates and new features first before perpetual users.

From what I hear, iZotope guys were quite burned with their subscription tactics and are learning the lesson (like updates that are sub only? What were they thinking, that's never gonna fly). Soooo, doesn't seem NI is gonna make the same mistake.

To me, personally, it only makes sense to offer different entry points and methods. It's all revenue, be it perpetual licenses or subscriptions or RTO... A company that is focused on growth would be smart to offer as many ways to enter their ecosystem as possible. Just a personal thought.

Sure, some people just hate subscription as a concept and fear the long term direction, personally I just thinks this is a really weak list of things to 'subscribe' to that will attract derision and it makes me wonder about NI's decision making (I say that as someone with most of their products hard and soft that wants NI to prosper!)

I hear ya. Play Series has been incredibly successful though, so it's not exactly a terrible decision to include those titles. And of course, more things will be coming...

I really dislike any subscription based stuff. I would be really disappointed if they ditch their old full buy in customers and go for the subscription only plan. I refuse to use my Waves purchases anymore because of their WUP. My understanding is we are moving more and more towards a “sharing economy” where you don’t own as many things but everything is rented.

It might work for some people, but I hate it.

I've considered this at length, taking into account a wide range of views from many respected individuals, and have concluded that plugin subscriptions can suck my balls.

You’ll own nothing and be happy.

Generally, I don't really have a problem with the sub, as long as the perpetual licenses are always available and are subject to the same pricing models as before. Not that would ever sub, personally.

Of course, there are 'certain' companies that try to 'freeze out' their previous perpetual license buyer's, that's my problem with it.

Quite a simple reason why.

1# Fear. I share it. Currently there are no plans, but we're old enough to know that this might change quickly. Could also be done by making the perpetual not attractive anymore.

2# The offering is really not good. This creates the impression that they doesn't take their user seriously - which is again creating fear, because it communicates that NI has no intrinic interest to deliver a great product first, but mainly is trying to create buisness models around certain given products.

I expected this to have the full Komplete for 8.99. As it is the content is just too meagre.

New ceo is specialised in software on demand .
Says enough
I only care for reaktor and if N.I. ever goes belly up , let's just hope they also remove the native acces authorizaton tool so we reaktor users can continue to keep enjoying it .
N.I. has become an extremely lame company , no doubt about that

This is the point in these threads where someone says that, and then I ask if anyone can name any developer who first introduced an optional sub, and then later made it sub only. I don't know how many times I've asked it, but to date no-one has ever suggested a name. Even I think there has to be one or two out there, but so far nada.

Maybe they could name this the "Kompletely Unkomplete Non-Collector's Subscription for Left-handed Music Producers"?

I feel like I have a knack for marketing

From the relevant blog post:

"To state the obvious – we know that subscriptions are not for everyone. It is clear that a lot of our users want to keep buying our products in a way that is familiar to them, and we want to reassure everyone that subscription is just another way to get access. We are not making any changes to the existing ways of purchasing our products, and we are fully committed to investing in our perpetual portfolio. We will continue to keep our products updated to allow for continued use and development."
