It makes you think though doesn't it
Tha they are not in it for the long haul
Smash and grab raid

Ni and propellerhead are good products
Someone would take them on if they go down I hope .
It's hard once someone who loves a piece of art sells it on because then it only becomes a commodity
Because it's not loved by the new person who owns it
But then hasn't Adobe stayed alive on sub models ?
Do they still sell perpetual licences ?

Just take the Roland Jupiter X/XM where you are so lucky that you now can buy a Wifi dongle that will check your system everytime you use your instrument to see if you are subscribed to the cloud.

If you forget to have that dongle plugged in it will start to warn you after you have used a soundbank or other cloud product 20 times and after 30 times the extra soundbanks will stop working and you have to insert it again to reauthorize your subscription.

And the setup manual :)

I have had my interest in the J X/XM for about a year now but now i am happy that i went 1 generation back and bought the Roland FA instead and will never consider any new hw from Roland again unless it is something like the boutique JX 08 or JD 08 which is not affected by this madnesss.
Roland is now controlled by a private equity company and they have a certain focus that is often at odds with the creative process
No auto tune...

Yeah I’m trying to get K13U and I have the S49 MK2 as well. It’s sad to see NI go this route.

I recently bought Komplete 13 upgrade, which was discounted for for € 269. Today NI sent me a email with an offer to upgrade to Komplete 13 ultimate for only € 199,67 (instead of € 599!). That's a discount of 66% which lasts until December 31.

Very tempting offer but I wonder if there's a catch somehow, with this new subscription service they came up with :scared:

It is a shame to see my favorite companies turning into $ Vampires.
I have lifetime keys from their Cloud since i started out there from the beginning so i do already have the Jupiter X inside my Computer and a System 8.

The Cloud is not Perfect but it works when i need it and it is a much better option than having to add a long ilok key behind your hw synth that you paid lot of money to use standalone.

I might have been interested in the full Komplete for $9.99, but not this pre-school collection.
Virtual drug for the people so they will buy more.

Atlatnesiti wrote: Thu Dec 09, 2021 4:48 pmTruth is that you never own the software you buy, regardless of it being subscription based or not.
Subscription makes it more affordable to masses
Paying let’s say $99 a year for update is not different to paying $99 subscription fee with additional benefits.
People are complaining about being connected to use the subscription software once a month and yet they are connected here on kvr forums 24/7. What a joke…
Musicians yearn for a simpler time when all was hardware. If it went a bit wonky, you could hit it and it might come good for a while.

And yet at the same time, people want all the goodies and joys the modern-day internet can bring. Free updates! Free goodies!

We all made a pact with the devil when we looked at computers and thought "hey, they could help me make music". For all the wailing and complaining, few actually go back to a portastudio and hardware synths. I honestly think many people would be happier if they did, you know. You can get a 24 track Tascam with 8 XLR inputs for under £400. As far as I know, it doesn't need to be connected to the internet. IT'S OUT THERE, GUYS.
Well HW instruments doesn't seem to be safe in the future either.

Wasn't aware of it. Sounds ridiculous what you've described.

No it's not, it just that the other system is worse, so you think a bad system is ok. 8)

One should also be aware that so called dark patters are well known at sales people and there are many well workng ones.

For instance, it's a researched pattern to make an additional, worse offer to guide customer to the other offer you have, because they look well in contrast.

No i am not a fan of The Cloud Protection at all and wish they would give us back the good old Roland Contentstore option where you Installed and authorized once and it was good to go for years without interuption or problems.

I do love the Roland sound and got sucked in to the Cloud from the beginning so i guess you could say i was already trapped. :help:

If i had bought a Jupiter X/XM i would be pretty pissed after buying a physical product that i thought i owned only to be met with a usb key solution to be able to use my product in the future.

What i described on how it works is in the second link with the WC-1 setup Manual from Roland.

I wonder what the higher tiers will be called? Komplete Next? Komplete Never?

I just got an email from NI offering me 66% off an upgrade to Collector’s Edition (from Ultimate)...so its probably coming top subscription soon...
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

IMO, NI had lost the threads of their origins long before the merger with Izotope. It’s a bummer as i was a big fan of both companies ‘til they got vacuumed up by vulture capitalist who have absolutely no interest except MONEY. That’s not to say the employees themselves feel that way but i think that there’s been (?) or will be an exodus of the real brains behind both companies who are likely still interested in innovation.

Extremely tempting, but like you, I also wonder what the mystery catch is. If it's a way to get more people into a higher cost renewal (Komplete vs. Ultimate) I'm fine with that. But part of me wonders if there is more to it than that.

Post

I can't say I am remotely tempted to upgrade to the 'Collector’s Edition' (the level they invented after 'Ultimate' just to piss me off) even with 66% off, none of the new stuff has been added, it's pretty much just extra sampled orchestra stuff.

I may upgrade to Ultimate 14 at some point (if that still an option) but I am not in a hurry if they are just adding packs and Kontakt stuff.
