Is this one of those projects like aciddose one where its never actually finished?

You know, here is v1, it's done, here's a v2 update etc....

I'd give it a go but if it's constantly changing everyone's just a tester, and it's not usable in projects....

Don't read this as a moan/hate comment, it's just a question

Official, non-nightly releases are rock-stable.

Post

We have official releases every half a year or so (XT2.0 might take a year considering all the things we really want to do for it, covering a lot of long-standing feature requests etc.), and things are tested via nightly builds in the meantime. The whole process is entirely transparent, considering Surge is open-source and all that. You don't have to deal with nightlies at all, you can just go with official releases and then it's like any other plugin update. Nightlies exist exactly for those intrepid people willing to help us make Surge the best it can be with least possible bugs.

We strive to have things as stable as they can be, even in nightlies. Of course, if we're right in the middle of adding a new big feature, it feels like house renovation in progress, so crashes can happen (but they are fixed as fast as possible, sometimes in hours, but never more than a day or two). But you don't see that if you just use official releases of course. We also always state when there's a breaking change (which we try to do as rarely as possible), and project and patch compatibility is extremely important to us.

It's an entirely valid question, AnX, and thanks for posing it. Hope the answer is satisfactory :)

Reminds me of Serum - wish there were some official releases rather than perpetual beta.

Both Surge and Xhip are usable in projects, no one forces you to update to a version that would break your old projects (small updates won't do that anyway).

ps. So happens that these 2 are my 2 favorite free softsynths. :)
Surge is like a workshop full of tools some of i will rarely use, Xhip is like a Swiss Army Knife that can do more than one would expect just by looking at its UI (and has a proper unison mode which i asked for in Surge, but idk if the feature request got ignored, or really low in priority :) ).

Ay caramba !

Voice unison is planned for XT2. See the above linked milestone list of issues on GitHub, please :)

Am I correct in saying there is no dedicated classic Arpeggiator in Surge?

Nope, but one is planned for XT2, too! Will be a modulator too (like in Zebra 2, say).

Cool! :)

You guys are doing a great job. Thanks for all your hard work. :tu:

Any chance of NKS integration once KK gets full VST3 support?

NKS SDK license doesn't currently gel well with open source projects, unfortunately.

We Linux users are very, very grateful for all of the hard (and fantastic) work you guys are doing for Surge!! Surge stands as one of the best open source powerhouse synths in everyone's Linux arsenal. Thank you! 8) :tu:
