Honestly, I can't see how anyone who didn't start out making music yesterday can seriously find this thing any useful - and even then I would advice against using it... but then again these sort of tools come out plenty these days, so there must be a market for it after all...

Dieter Meier from Yello once told me personally, that they just used everything to make music. Of course he did not mention that he owned a fairlight system at that time, anyone else hardly could afford.
I am pragmatic, I hope, and I don't care, if an instrument is acoustic or electronic, knowing I need electricity for the latter one. For example I am a big fan of the hand pans. What me interests most these days is tuning. And there the electronic instruments can shine.
And also sequencers: They are fun to play around, but to finish a piece, they are just a start. I never just used and played sequences without altering them by hand. That said, it is not a surprise that most of the music produced now is not in my universe.

You must really feel great in your elitist, snobbish world of "real musicians", no?jens wrote: Sat Dec 11, 2021 8:56 amHonestly, I can't see how anyone who didn't start out making music yesterday can seriously find this thing any useful - and even then I would advice against using it... but then again these sort of tools come out plenty these days, so there must be a market for it after all...
Yes. I can't play an instrument. I don't know music theory. Those sorts of devices help me realize ideas - or come up with new ones - that I wouldn't be able to otherwise. Deal with it

Me in a nutshell. Just jam keys until something sounds good.antic604 wrote: Sat Dec 11, 2021 1:20 pm Yes. I can't play an instrument. I don't know music theory. Those sorts of devices help me realize ideas - or come up with new ones - that I wouldn't be able to otherwise. Deal with it![]()

I am not elitist at all. I just don't think it's really a useful tool for musicians on any level. Deal with it.

The level of dealing is dangerously moving. How much does one need to take?jens wrote: Sat Dec 11, 2021 1:51 pm I am not elitist at all. I just don't think it's really a useful tool for musicians on any level. Deal with it.

why not write: "I just don't think it's really a useful tool for me."jens wrote: Sat Dec 11, 2021 1:51 pm I am not elitist at all. I just don't think it's really a useful tool for musicians on any level. Deal with it.
i've tried this tool yesterday and it is a very well thought out and musical device especially in conjunction with other Players imo. for me all these new midi-and audiotools are great inventions to get things done differently. they inspire my creative flow, although i can play piano/keys, guitar, bass, percussives and some and i have some ideas about theory, although i'm not academically trained.

Tools like these are made to make it easier for producers, composers, musicians and singers to release their music. If there weren't tools to keep me in a specific key (for instance), I would probably never finish any music at all. But I also know people who have studied music and can play almost every instrument they get in their hands, but who still can't produce music, so these tools can be used by everyone.

Or you can use Captain Chords to control Captain Deep (with just a single sustained note) which supplies the root bass note for Bassline Generator. That way Bassline Generator will follow Captain Chords.antic604 wrote: Fri Dec 10, 2021 11:18 amRight, that's true. However with a bit of wiring you can create a "chord track" in Reason that will control the key of - for example - chords generated by Scales & Chords, melodies played by QNG or PolyStep, arpeggios played by Dual Arpeggio, etc. You can make Reason's players work together, too. Obviously it's not as easy and more expensive, but still doableflori89 wrote: Fri Dec 10, 2021 11:12 am...and it's the combination with Captain Chords that makes this approach still better for me. Looks like one of the best reandom bassline generator currently out there though, that's for sure, so certainly a good addition to Reason.![]()

I think most people (especially muscians) are looking completely wrong at such tools...
Even the best muscian of the world cannot honestely believe there wouldn´t be any better inspiration source than his/her own imagination (leaving skills alone)...
And that´s what these tools are... inspiration sources...
Nobody will ever claim these would replace any further and deeper development of ideas...
But nobody can deny that these tools can be a great help for delivering an initial starting point one perhaps wouldn´t have had without...
I am a big fan of Captain plugins as they are really the best allround solution one can find on the market nowadays for creating a quick and dirty complete song idea the fastest way I can imagine...
Changing chords or complete structures on the fly and everything else follows...
For the current offer for 54,-€ atm this is simply unbeatable...
Nevertheless the Propellerheads (sorry they were and stay the Propellerheads for me) have nailed it once again...
Their complete series of Player devices is simply unmatched in terms of flexibility and usefullness especially when combined...
No other developer was ever able to make such flexibel devices so dead simple to use and to keep the most important factor at highest level: fun!
And for me it´s not an either/ or decision between Captain Plugins and Reason (Players)...
I am a happy user of both!
Again Props... well done and even if you got such a shitstorm for Reason+, I simply love it...!
For such a huge and great collection of plugins 20,-€ a month is nothing even if I end up with not having an old version of a software I could perhaps resell for 10% of the money I invested...
Keep up the great work!

Because that's not what I meant. My opinion is that anyone who thinks this thing has much merit has lost all rights to scoff at (say) Ejay Dance...mellotronaut wrote: Sat Dec 11, 2021 2:14 pmwhy not write: "I just don't think it's really a useful tool for me."jens wrote: Sat Dec 11, 2021 1:51 pm I am not elitist at all. And by the way: I wouldn't lose a word on this silly toy (have at it if that's your thing) if it wasn't yet another nail in the coffin (of which there have been plenty recently - the whole companies' output gets dumber and sillier and more pointless and disingenious by the minute...)

What's the deal I am dealing with? I love a good deal.
I wish the new tool were a part of 12. I miss Propellerheads.

It's funny how this stuff works, I realized this wasn't for me right away, because I rarely start a song from percussion and melody, then put the baseline in last? 90% of the time I'm starting from bass or melody, then adding drums after the other two are done. I start a whole hell of a lot of songs off of a strong bass line, single note run.antic604 wrote: Thu Dec 09, 2021 10:40 am The new Player is out. 74EUR/USD or "free" with R+. It's also in Rewards Store.
After looking at few YT videos, I have to say it's pretty awesome! :love
