Of course, if you decide not to pay for the likes of Netflix, you still have free options.antic604 wrote: Sun Dec 12, 2021 11:39 am No, just like I haven't stopped watching films, series and documentaries when Netflix became available. Quite the opposite.

Even worse than KVR subscription, lets just hope that KVR do not charge for each post because I know someone who will be in big trouble

They are available right now as well and I chose to rather pay for my DAWs and their upgrades.jacqueslacouth wrote: Sun Dec 12, 2021 3:14 pmOf course, if you decide not to pay for the likes of Netflix, you still have free options.antic604 wrote: Sun Dec 12, 2021 11:39 am No, just like I haven't stopped watching films, series and documentaries when Netflix became available. I'm not sure I see the connection to this particular topic.

I am even not really sure if this would be really a bad thing...
When it comes to subscription for me it really just matters how it is setup.
For me companies like Slate, Reason Studios, Presonus and many others do it the right way: they offer so much value that you would have to pay at least 10 years anyway the same amount to buy this stuff... this is for me a good ratio...
A subscription like offered now from Native Instruments is nothing than laughable... I take a few of my least sold bits with perhaps one little highlight in and want to make people rent this stuff which is hardly worth the rate of 2 years when buying similars...
If they would offer Komplete Ultimate for let´s say €19,90 a month... this would be fair as most stuff in there is already more an oldtimer than something groundbreaking new... but 10,-€ for this current bullsh*t subscription is nothing than customer screw-up
So my decision depends only on the cost-benefit ratio... while of course there is a high risk for professionals with a tight schedule...
If Internet breaks for a few hours this might cause already a big damage...
So in such subscriptions there should be a certain safety zone that i.e. the software is still accessable unrestricted for 2 or 3 days if no internet connection can be established...

In the interest of saving the planet, you will not be permitted to use any more electricity, or any type of fuel. This will be for your own good. Remember, we're all in this together.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

Would you give up music if Aliens invade the planet?
It's an equally unlikely scenario as all DAWs going subscription.

I make music all the time without my DAW, a DAW is not the focal point of my passion...making music is, I am a musician and was one long before any of us had computers in our homes. I'm at least two, maybe three versions behind on my DAW as well
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

technically it is about DAWs though and ftr, it is music related so if gets moved it would be to everything else, not off topicTeksonik wrote: Sun Dec 12, 2021 7:25 pm Would you give up music if Aliens invade the planet?

I wouldn’t stop making music but I wouldn’t subscribe either… I think I’d keep running the computers and the daw I already own for as long as possible and in the meantime I’d probably write my own simple sequencer… but there are already some opensource daws, so I’d probably contribute to a project if I feel something is missing, instead of building something from scratch…
I already collected enough hardware synths, so I can probably strip down my setup and go mostly otb, with a simple sequencer to drive everything and provide simple recording (I could do the job with the features of a daw from 20 years ago, if needed).
Being able to code and to build some simple electronics does help a lot… it would be just a matter of time, but I wouldn’t surrender easily to a subscription-only scenario.
