I don't usually take the time to write about sound packs, but I thought Analog Orchestra was worth mentioning. I just picked it up yesterday, and I'm super impressed and excited enough to write this. ;-)

The pack features an assortment of instruments but focuses mainly on Strings, Brass, and Reeds. The sounds are clearly not designed or expected to be exact emulations of "real" orchestra instruments. They are not samples with sample-type articulations. Instead, they are Ultra Analog's take on those instruments . . . full of its own character and warmth (at times). While other times the sound pack has a bit of a lo-fi quality . . . if cheesy . . . a good cheese. ;-) Once I stopped comparing to the actual instruments, I started digging the sounds for what they are. There are several patches I find useful without tweaking and many more I intend to use with a little editing. I like many of these in the same way I like the Mellotron . . . not the same, but cool in its own right. The demo I watched on YouTube features a sax, which isn't bad, but I find the wind and strings (of course) more silky, lush, and begging to be used. ;-)

For what it's worth . . . it's only $19 at this time. I'm glad I picked it up.

Note: Although AAS is a leader in physical modeling, this pack is built for Ultra Analog VA-3 and boasts timbres from that sound engine.

I think this pack is worth checking out . . .

I agree, it's an interesting take on what a VA synth can achieve. Some sounds are rather unusual, but with a unique original character.

For best pricing check out JRRshop with discount code "forum", or AudioDeluxe with code "CYBER21".

I've used Ultra Analog since v1 and strongly feel it's one of the most underrated virtual analog instruments out there. There are some cool sound packs for it, and it's fairly easy to program. Yet, this pack took me by surprise. I agree with zzz00m, "It's an interesting take on what a VA synth can achieve." It really pushes the boundaries.

I'm quite impressed with it as well. I usually go for more modern synth and only got Ultra Analog VA-3 as part of a bundle, but I bought this pack immediately after hearing the demo.

The variety of sounds Cipryan Bot manages to get out of this simple two oscillator synths is worth studying and brings also great texture to your music.

I don't think calling it a 2 oscillator synth is very accurate, it has 2 oscillators per layer, each with a sub-oscillator, so in many senses it's really more like a 4 or 8 oscillator synth.

Now if only it had decent modulation options :(

You can talk about analog warmth or fatness for days but one thing that has been clear to me since the first time I heard Ultra Analog is that this synth is ALIVE.

i have a "free soundbank" coupon thing from AAS but this bank is not included evidently.
Kicks and Snares is the only other bank i don't have, but i doubt i'd use it, anyone have it and find it useful?

UA-VA2 is still one of my fav top 5 synths, especially for more aleatoric and FX vibes.
I'm not much of a fan of the 3rd iterations of UA, Chromaphone and String Studio even though the newer sound banks contain some awesome patches ... I still prefer to work with the 2nd versions of those VIs.

You're right, a lot of the patches use both layers.

Is that the Xmas one?

Got this as an Xmas freebie but would have paid for it - this is really very impressive, even a nice synth piano and some other sounds which I never would have expected from Analog Lab. Great programming.
