Anyone know what this means? There are literally hundreds of sample packs that come Battery formatted. Do these no longer work? Will the ones we already own still work?!!rafa1981 wrote: Wed Dec 08, 2021 12:02 pm Not an user, but 3rd party import format remove sounds bad.
NI Battery 4.2 update is out!

I don't know what that means, but, it imports samples as always.rafa1981 wrote: Wed Dec 08, 2021 12:02 pm Not an user, but 3rd party import format remove sounds bad.
Of course, the Negative Nelly crew already approved your post as true, without simply trying it, as usual.

EvilDragon wrote: Wed Dec 08, 2021 6:03 pm Removing 3rd party format import is a consequence of Battery 4.2 being built from Kontakt 6 codebase (they're the same engine, different GUI, as it always were - Battery was actually first, from it, Kontakt grew), and K6 had the 3rd party format import already removed from the initial release. So KConvert module is not in there anymore (that's basically Chicken Systems Translator in a module, to explain naively).
REX support remained, though. That one is (arguably) the most important one anyways.

Have you seen sample packs that come in Ableton and Battery and other sampler formats? It's not about individuals wave files (I'm not a complete idiot ffs), it's about the Battery format bank files that propagate a bank of samples into Battery.chk071 wrote: Sun Dec 12, 2021 8:22 pmI don't know what that means, but, it imports samples as always.rafa1981 wrote: Wed Dec 08, 2021 12:02 pm Not an user, but 3rd party import format remove sounds bad.

Still trying to figure out exactly what we've lost here. For example, Akai has it's own bank file format. Is that what we've lost? Or Machine bank files? <shrugs>giant_panda wrote: Sun Dec 12, 2021 8:41 pmEvilDragon wrote: Wed Dec 08, 2021 6:03 pm Removing 3rd party format import is a consequence of Battery 4.2 being built from Kontakt 6 codebase (they're the same engine, different GUI, as it always were - Battery was actually first, from it, Kontakt grew), and K6 had the 3rd party format import already removed from the initial release. It's probably related to attempts to import other sampler formats, not raw samples. i.e. some attempt at MPC, or EXS etc. import. I recall maybe incorrectly thinking it was always kinda bad, so not a great loss. At least as long as Kontakt import remains.chk071 wrote: Sun Dec 12, 2021 8:22 pmI don't know what that means, but, it imports samples as always.rafa1981 wrote: Wed Dec 08, 2021 12:02 pm Not an user, but 3rd party import format remove sounds bad.

TBH I'm not sure what was left anyway... used to be Gigastudio and EXS24... what else did I forget? But I'm not sure either worked properly in Kontakt 6 regardless. Feels more like a belated admission than an announcement...

From the Battery manual prior to 4.2:

These formats are not supported anymore.

I'm taking a guess here, but it might be that the conversions were licensed to begin with.
The only real advantage to Machfive 3 over Falcon was the file import, Falcon only converts EXS from what I know. Now if in both cases it was licensed from Chicken Systems or a similar file converting company, and required a hefty fee for the latest license I totally get it.
Makes me realize next time Chicken Systems goes on sale I'll pick it up, best to go to the source than to deal with overextended companies attempting to implement conversion or licensing it etc.
Battery isn't a horrible thing to lose this way, but I hope kontakt retains EXS import, then you could export Mainstage Autosampler (Redmatica autosampler was rolled into Mainstage), into Kontakt, and if it would be better in Battery, import it into Battery from Kontakt,

Thank you. This is the goat answer. Much appreciated. Also, ffs Native Instruments. Losing soundfont is gonna impact me.EvilDragon wrote: Sun Dec 12, 2021 10:34 pm From the Battery manual prior to 4.2:

That's exactly the case, the whole 3rd party format import was done by Chicken Systems.machinesworking wrote: Sun Dec 12, 2021 10:49 pm I'm taking a guess here, but it might be that the conversions were licensed to begin with.
It's dead, Jim. Since Kontakt 6.0.0, no 3rd party format import anymore, which includes EXS. It was all done by Chicken Systems, and that module is out of the picture now.machinesworking wrote: Sun Dec 12, 2021 10:49 pmbut I hope kontakt retains EXS import, then you could export Mainstage Autosampler (Redmatica autosampler was rolled into Mainstage), into Kontakt, and if it would be better in Battery, import it into Battery from Kontakt,
It's the same for Kontakt. Same exact patch conversion module.

Oh... well lots of reports that stuff like EXS24 haven't worked for years in Kontakt, people saying they've kept Kontakt 5 for those chores.EvilDragon wrote: Sun Dec 12, 2021 10:56 pmIt's the same for Kontakt. Same exact patch conversion module.
