I'd sooner see someone who's paid for it give an honest comparison rather than a YouTube influencer acting like he's just won the lottery and dancing around for 15 minutes, before giving the inevitable 'you need this synth guys!' verdict.GMusic wrote: Wed Dec 15, 2021 9:01 pmA kind request: please have Bartek do a video on all the new features/improvements of Nexus 4. I paid for the update to version 4, I don't think it's worth it at all. You get a new soundbank, that has macros assigned, but all the other banks don;t support macros.. Besides macros, there's nothing much in the way of new. When asking about this, REFX said it's too much to implement. Imagine Spectrasonics, who just brought out Sonic Extensions where each patch is now 6 patches with Scenes, saying something like that. It just shows their lack of susbtance, and depth, still no synthesis offered after all these years.
Still can't layer patches, Refx is pretty much a preset player, that works well, for a version 1, 2, but 3 and 4 ? No growth, they simply want tosell you patches and soundbanks to continue to profit, yet not offer their customers who support them, any substance.. imo.. ymmv Just my opinion.

Are the layers still called layer 1, layer 2 etc? I thought that was really sloppy with older versions. The lack of proper naming makes editing different layers pot luck.trusampler wrote: Wed Dec 15, 2021 10:27 pm I paid for the update to version 4, I don't think it's worth it at all. Yes, no-one likes working on old product and it takes some resources, but if you're going to do a job right, that's what you do. I mean, they're definitely charging enough for it. Imagine Native Instruments saying they weren't going to tag and organise all their old instruments for NKS? Yes its a bigger company, but they also have 80x as many products.

You're asking about the Sq files right? Layer 1, 2 etc.. Now they say the name for eg: If Layer 1 is a kick, it will say that, Layer 2 is a synth it will say that.. Not sure if that's worth it, it should have always been there.. Perhaps if you work with their preset SQ files enough this might interest someone.
Overall, they are greedy for not implementing the features their customers have begged for, for many years.. Propellerhead did the same thing, n lost tons of customers,as Musicians and producers get older, and more refined so do our needs.. Refx is simply too selfish to do the work, yet want top money and IMO and Nexus 4 isn't worth the money.

Of course it isn't worth the money but as a long as users like you fall into the trap they doing fine.
They obviously don't get enough money with the extensions anymore so they decided to milk their customers with the rompler itself. Knowing that many wouldn't jump on the small upgrade for the asking big price they also decided to make the new expansions N4 only. What a bunch of ******..

Is this the new ROM content and XPs that are labelled?trusampler wrote: Thu Dec 16, 2021 1:35 am You're asking about the Sq files right? Layer 1, 2 etc.. Moneygrab for sure
But I bought it and I don't have any regrets. Nexus is perfect for my sideproject where I don't want to spend that much time. Don't think that sideproject would even exist without it.
If someones on the fence I think you should wait for them to release more expansions and if those are something you want, then upgrade.

Out of curiosity, what kind of music do you produce for this side project?larduino wrote: Thu Dec 16, 2021 10:03 am Moneygrab for sureBut I bought it and I don't have any regrets. Exactly. Also, hopefully they will add some new features to Nexus4 in the meantime. If someones on the fence I think you should wait for them to release more expansions and if those are something you want, then upgrade.

I think they really dropped the ball on this update. There's just not enough in it to justify the $99 'upgrade' price and then on top of that all new expansions from this point on REQUIRE v4 to work ..... so no new expansions will be purchased by me or many other users I think .... bad mistake!
ReFx need to take a look at Arturia - Pigments is constantly being updated with a huge amount of new functionality and they have never (as yet) charged any upgrade fee between version 1 and version 3.5!

I'm talking about the layers tab. In the image below. they're just called arbitrary things like layer 4 and layer 7. Are you saying these are actually labeled differently now?trusampler wrote: Thu Dec 16, 2021 1:35 am You're asking about the Sq files right? Layer 1, 2 etc.. Yes, but unfortunately, it's only for ROM Extension 3. :\m-ac wrote: Thu Dec 16, 2021 10:38 amI'm talking about the layers tab. I wish they add names for all layers in an update, but seems unlikely due to the amount of work involved.

And this is part of the reason I won't be upgrading or buying any more expansions. It was the same from V2 to V3. When I asked the dev if the older expansions would be updated to include the new features they basically laughed at me with a 'are you serious, that would be way too much work' response. Well if you're charging (again!) for an 'upgrade' that none of my existing expansions will see the benefit of then you're out of luck .... vote with your wallets people, it's the only way the dev will change their attitude.

To be fair, it would be a lot of work - 20,000 presets at say 10 layers each. Not impossible, just a lot of boring work.
It would be a lot easier if they had a mixer page with nice clear vertical meters with every layer on the same page (and, yes, an output assign at the bottom).

I'm not denying that - but at least update the existing N3 presets if not the older 'legacy' ones to make the $99 upgrade fee a little more palatable. They're not going to do it anyway, so I'm happy to keep V3 and the expansions I already have. I may upgrade when V6 comes outnoiseboyuk wrote: Thu Dec 16, 2021 11:31 am To be fair, it would be a lot of work - 20,000 presets at say 10 layers each. Not impossible, just a lot of boring work.
