Even though I have some different compressor plugins, in most cases
I use a 1176 emulation, T-Racks 76 or
Waves.
What's your choice on parallel drum bus?

Post

IK Bus Compressor or if you need more character the AberrantDSP ShapeShifter

NI Bus comp

MJUC mode ii. (176, tube predecessor to 1176; nice and smashy.)

IK Comprexxor has a wet/dry knob and works really well on drums. Same for Arturia’s 1176 model.
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

Use the mix function?

I just put it on the drum bus with fast attack/recovery, turn up the compression and then audition different ratio/density/istage/drive options. Release knob controls groove as usual. Sometimes low-ratio direct (with slower attack) sounds better than high-ratio parallel (with fast attack); there is a mix knob and A/B feature so it's easy to experiment with different options.

I guess on a parallel bus there is the option to send different amounts of things, but the sidechain highpass-filter mostly covers that anyway.

PSP FETpressor is a beast

Watched a video about compressors for smashing drums. There is a plugin called Elyria Mpressor, best plugin I have ever seen / heard on drums. I hope PA will have it on sales soon, must have it. Also some NI Supercharger seems to be pretty good. I thought I already know all compressor plugins, I was obviously wrong :D

I was just trying out Korneff Talk Back Limiter (bought) and Pawn Shop Compressor (thinking about it). Both are very cool on drums and using mix blend parallel comp.
