Nuendo 3 - now only $2499!

yeah I know those points - I had endless debates over these with some studio owner here when it was N1.5.3. He wanted to talk me into Nuendo and Reason (N was lot cheaper then) but I sticked with C and this year FLS. If Steinberg continues with maintaining same codebase there won't be much problems and sound differences when transfering authored songs from project to *real* studio for mix.

OMFG - there's some TRUE high-end idiots over on that forum!Kingston wrote:If you have to start fighting about nuendo, its high price and feature set vs. sx and insist on throwing protools in the mix as well, you might as well look at this thread:

Fortunately those will just die away during the next few years.
And no, I'm not talking about crypticglove and the likes (their points are reasonable indeed).
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

You're damn right! Still, gearslutz is one of the best mixing and recording related resources on the net if you know whos posts to look for. There's some serious experience and good advice there as well as some big trustworthy names behind those nicks..OMFG - there's some TRUE high-end idiots over on that forum!

Unfortunately, those high-end idiots are not about to go away as long as the american gearslut scene exists. Sometimes you just wanna go there and kick their heads in for spreading so much biased miss-information. Sometimes even some of the big players manage to produce such massive brain farts that will make you whinge for days. I'm thinking "fletcher". (most of his advice is good, just beware of the *BIAS*)

Hell, I think I have close to that in my stuff; if I count my pianos, I'm way past it.

I'm not sure how to muster respect for that sort of attitude. It goes way beyond just the music industry. It gets into how people ignore the technology developing around them and then wonder how they got left behind, unemployable, etc.Kingston wrote:remember some of the people in that thread are oldschool mixer dudes who know very little about the most current versions and features and seem very biased about things as well)
I see the phenomemon everywhere, though. I regard it as a weakness, a sign that you lack passion for what you do. That's all it can be, because anyone with any passion for their work, would have a voracious appetite for ANY information that could even possibly affect them. Particularly, if tools, techonologies, or techniques are developed. How could they not?
I wouldn't hire a C programmer who hasn't bothered to learn Java. I wouldn't hire a Windows Administrator who hasn't even been curious enough to once, ever, set up a Linux box by now. Any more than I'd take my car to a mechanic who stopped learning about cars before they had fuel injection, and only knows carbuerators. (I really don't care how experienced you are, or WERE, if you chose to be stagnant like that, well, like I said, I don't know how I'm supposed to respect someone who lives life that way.)
It's great that you cut your teeth on 2" tape and mixing for vinyl. Why'd you commit intellectual suicide by not keeping up with the times?
That's how I see it.

Hey, thanks! So while gearslutz and likes were mentioned I assumed it was pretty selbsverstandlich that I pointed to a facility which offers proffessional service to paying clients in a controled, calibrated and predictable environment as opposed to a facility buid predominantly to author owner's own material or to deliver authored audio(visual) material to a specifically built facility for further refinement in terms of further adjusting track levels and frequency space, according to commonly accepted standards, under guidance of a trained proffessional.Award for the most vague concept of the day!

The concept of real studio is infinitely flexible. What you said about professional studio spaces can be also done at "home", if skilled enough. Hence the vagueness of the concept. Then again what you mentioned probably applies to the average KVR user pretty well.I pointed to a facility which offers proffessional service to paying clients in a controled, calibrated and predictable environment as opposed to a facility buid predominantly to author owner's own material or to deliver authored audio(visual) material to a specifically built facility for further refinement in terms of further adjusting track levels and frequency space, according to commonly accepted standards, under guidance of a trained proffessional.
