If the update did not come with 260 new sounds, then you might have a fair point that it should be free.
They're more of the same of what's already in the base library. No-one wants them, no-one asked for them. Almost all others synth developers include extra presets with an update that includes any new features. Didn't pigments just throw in another 150 with 3.5? The presets were thrown in for this exact argument, but its not flying this time round.

Avengers the better synth, and I'm not just saying that because im salty!
Many thanks, that makes it 2-0 for Avenger so far based on feedback received so far.
Just to add, don't forget about the drums and drum sequencer in avenger. Some brilliant percussion and patterns included that many people overlook.

For example i could upgrade from V Collection 7 to 8 from Arturia for the same price what they ask for this rompler with some minor 0.x changes.

So i'll pass of course.

I have the money it wouldn't hurt but it's a matter of principle to give (in this case not to give) a greedy dev what he deserve.

Besides what others have said...this should be optional. If I just take what you are saying, then I am forced to purchase 2 soundpacks to upgrade to the next version...2 packs that I don't want and may never use.

From what I have read, creating new sounds for Nexus 4 in a lengthy process to take advantage of what they have added. For this reason, I have no doubt that we might see some fantastic sounds coming from Nexus 4 soundpacks soon if not already. But the sounds are NOT coming from Nexus. Nexus is merely the vehicle. Even a simple sampler has more power than Nexus...I can make fresh new sounds on my own with a sampler.

So I really don't know why we pay for the packaging (well I do know, but I am just laboring it at this point ha ha ha) when it is the content that we want.

Is REfx still banning users who report too many bugs that should've been fixed in beta?

Best bet then I guess is to not report too many bugs or request too many features, even if there are a lot of bugs. The developer might ban you and revoke the license you paid for.

I believe it is your demeanor and attitude more than anything else. I have found the support folks to be friendly. However, if you abuse their support people and make a pest of yourself, I think that is when you get banned.

uhhh... as a sound designer for Nexus, thats the point where I must say stop:  This isnt true at all.
Under the hood, there is a VERY complex synthesis engine, with 64 possible oscillators (not necessarily sample based!), shape morphing oscillators, pwm, several lfos, several envelopes, filters (paralell serial, dual mode), complex routing via 16 layers, very advanced sample mangling functions, several insert effect types per layer and vast key/vel-zoning, crossfading / layering options. A Nexus preset may sound nothing like the used source sample in the end.
N4 got even more features under the hood now, such as wavetables. Sound Designers have access to this and without a question, this will lead to even better and more complex sounds in the future.

Yuo may think about the update (or that 3/4 was only 2 years apart) what you want, but this is a fact: Nexus isnt just a "player". Its a deep synthesizer. :)

Really interesting Manuel. But I guess it raises two thoughts / questions.

1 - all that stuff is great. But in a sense that original comment still stands - we as users don't have access to any of that. All we have are the presets. So despite not being a sampler, it's a technically quite analogous to Kontakt Player v full Kontakt. Nexus is really Nexus Player - we do get some limited control over preset tweaks (as most libraries in Kontakt player offer some control). Only you developers have the real Nexus, with full control.

2 - how does Nexus keep CPU so low if it a genuine synthesizer under the hood?

1.) that is right. But that is the main concept since v1. Being a more complex synth rather than just a sample player affects strongly the quality you hear and how much control (new macros) you can have (as user) over the sound. See the upcoming Vintage Synths for a great example of macro assignments
2.) clever programming, and years of updates and improvements, especially on main version jumps

Post

But N4 is hardly a main version jump, in the devs eyes maybe, but a lot of potential expansion customers say na, and at the end of the day, they pay the wages of employees and sound designers, no expansion packs sold, no income. They shouldnt really be charging that much if anything, to update their Nexus versions to N4.

After all the real bread and butter income is from expansion packs.

msvs, I know where you are coming from. So please, this discussion is not about the packs, or what it takes to create them, or even for that matter that Nexus is a powerful synth or not. It is an untouchable synth. It is a preset synth. Um, we call that a player.

Even if I look at it from your point of view, Nexus For Developers (the synth) is basically an SDK for add-on packs that utilizes Nexus For Users (the player).

The new video shared some nice features that are in Nexus... and I think they show that Nexus is an INCREDIBLY worthy player with some editing capabilities. But given that I can't access the Nexus For Developers (the synth), I don't know why I would pay AGAIN for a player that I have already paid for. Faster browsing and loading is like improving code...devs do this daily at no charge to the client, because money is STILL being made from the service...in this case the sample packs.

Again, no argument to the programming, what goes into it, or for that matter the capabilities of Nexus. It is that we are paying for what essentially is a player...unless Nexus opens up the DEV kit to the public...(I really don't want that. I actually enjoy Nexus. Just disturbed at paying to upgrade the player.)

Post

I have the impression that the new N4 version would also have passed as 3.5.

But for me, however, is much more essential that they develop at all. We have waited years for the last upgrade (N2 > 3), Nexus seemed to be dead already.

It is very important to me that the new version shows that it continues! So the old expansions will also keep their value. Otherwise, an operating system update would have made everything unusable at some point.

Post

Totally agree with above, great points. Will the devs listen, big fat no is my idea.

Maybe they start to listen when income starts dropping due to lack of expansion sales.
