What is the new Absynth?

Absynth 5 I think. Still does the damn thing. Still looks dumb.
Seriously though the guy who made absynth's new synth Plasmonic is very fun. It has a great mod system and very good MPE implementation.
I wish he had used the multistage loopable envelopes in there as it would have made it a ton more flexible. I wouldn't recommend it unless it was on a pretty hefty sale unless you use MPE on a regular basis.
It's setup in a pretty non traditional way which leads you directly to some nifty sounds, but you could do a great deal of it with many modular or semi modular synths with a bit of patience. It was a bit on the expensive side for me considering what it does is what I'm saying........ Also absynth is still rad.

Just played with the Homegrown Sounds Equilibrium and got some rhythmic Absynth like sound.
Just love the many randomizer buttons.
This is included in the serenity Group Buy currently on sale.

I've had Absynth for years, I may have played a few presets, but never used it for anything. I think it's a bit of a pad machine. So maybe Omnisphere and Zebra 2 are similar.

Nostalgia bias.
If you're looking for the "new Absynth," you suffer from nostalgia bias. Full stop.
There are plenty of synths out now that are just as powerful and just as creative. You've built it up in your head that none of them are "as good" or "as unique" or whatever qualifier you've chosen. ...but that's not true. They are. You're just not seeing it, because you pine for the "good old days."
Thing is: they really weren't that good. Human beings just have this built-in flaw to think they were, because, yeah: things are hard now, and they seem harder than you remember then. It's all illusion, though.
I for one welcome our new robotic overlords.

"There are plenty of synths out now that are just as powerful and just as creative."
utter bullshit, and such arrogant uncollegial disrespect of people who actually know the instrument, a broad diss based purely in pop psychobabble. Dick move, instamute. "Introspective", that sure isn't.
if one wants a point made, talk about what features and what has specifically obviated them. There is no new Absynth, it's sui generis.

Hi
If NI revamp Absynth I hope they also rerelease Spectral delay and even Vokator - that would be a welcome set of updates - Hell, throw in B4 and Pro53(?)!!!

I have seen many people asking what would replace Absynth and usually answers are nothing really.
So my question is, what is wrong with the old Absynth? Is it not working anymore?

I've never actually used Absynth so no. I was looking for an up to date pad machine since it sounded dated on youtube.Introspective wrote: Sat Dec 18, 2021 12:38 pm Nostalgia bias.

Absynth is definitely in a different category than most synths.
Plasmonic is awesome and clearly of the same lineage. But it's more like a cousin than an evolution of Absynth. If Brian actually did say he intends to make something that is a continuation of the Absynth sound and workflow I'd be very interested in buying that also.

aren't there tons of semi-modular hybrids today?...its one thing to dismiss nostalgia, but I haven't heard anyone quantify what is so novel either..."aetherizer" and "cloud filter" are just granular multi-fx..."fractalizer" is a wavefolder....it has comb and modal filters for rudimentary PM...it has mseg anywhere philosophy....semi-modular flexible routing, a tiered random system, and the ability to be used as an FX plugin.
rapid and hyperion seem comparable and more than capable

No. This is a trap. I'll say "Straylight" and you'll say "but it doesn't have multi-point envelopes." I'll say "Zebra," and you'll tell me it doesn't have proper wavetables or whatever. I'll say "Avenger" and you'll laugh about how it's a happy hardcore synth. I'll say "Omnisphere runs circles around Absynth" and you'll pull some kind of "but it doesn't have the same effects" bullshit.
You've put Absynth in a box. You need to take it out. It's old, it's tired, it's thin, it has been superseded, many times over. Time to move on.
