Yes, it just shows its age now. After trying Groove Agent 5, I cannot go back to Battery 4. Battery 5 is what I am looking forward to.Lazarus451 wrote: Mon Dec 20, 2021 7:07 am Battery 4 is over 8 years old, so for me as an outsider Battery 5 would be a better business choice than expansion number 50 something. But maybe it's easier to outsource expansions than key software development.
Battery 4 is still a nice software. I just don't use it because I have Live's drum rack and other stuff.
Good Bye Reaktor, good bye NI synths

It's interesting that for me, Reaktor fades away for a while now.
Some years ago I would have said that it's the most important of their plugins for me, next to Kontakt, but somehow the Bitwig Grid, VCV, Bespoke, Architect etc. have mostly taken the place of Reaktor for me, together with several good Midi VSTs.
Kontakt is only important for me since I have so many libraries.
As a plugin, I find it extremely dated and convoluted to use.
I'm sure this fading away will continue, I hardly use anything from NI anymore.
Cheers,
Tom

It's a good solution for the few DAWs that don't have something like it, and for portability between DAWs. Mostly if they added in the FX features of Kontakt, it wouldn't take them much time.LFO8 wrote: Mon Dec 20, 2021 11:51 am Not sure if NI are going to invest in Battery anymore since most all DAWS have their native solutions for drums now. They might, I remember a while ago that native made a survey about battery and hinting something in the line of XO and Atlas.. but who knowsLFO8 wrote: Mon Dec 20, 2021 11:51 am Not sure if NI are going to invest in Battery anymore since most all DAWS have their native solutions for drums now. ^^ Same deal with DP11 and Model 12. Besides the obvious dumbness of 12 slots?? Why are people trying to be clever with this? (looking at you XO!), 16 is standard, Launchpads brought in 64, lets' just call it right there.

By that logic, NI should stop producing synths too as all DAW's also have themLFO8 wrote: Mon Dec 20, 2021 11:51 am Not sure if NI are going to invest in Battery anymore since most all DAWS have their native solutions for drums now. Ableton has Drum Rack, Logic has Drum Machine Designer… etc

My gripe with Battery is that it doesn't provide the drum map automatically to the DAW, which is standard in a lot of drum plugins these days. The interface also isn't resizable and it's kind of cluttered and hard to read. It's a great choice if you're using Cakewalk or Reaper that don't come with a decent drum plugin, but I much prefer the included drum plugins in the DAWs I use (FPC, Impact XT and Groove Agent SE 5). I agree the library is great in Battery 4, though.chk071 wrote: Mon Dec 20, 2021 6:48 pm Studio One has Impact, but, ugh... is that thing ugly. I much rather use Battery. Better GUI, many more features. Better library. Better everything really.
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

Ironically, you can.. but THAT actually breaks their terms of service._leras wrote: Sun Dec 19, 2021 10:22 pmCan't you just save kit with samples and share the kit with samples? Or 'Shouldn't' you!bmanic wrote: Fri Dec 17, 2021 6:35 am Dude.. you are COMPLETELY missing my point. I don't talk about editing the actual samples, just the basic preset of the synthesizer or drum machine in question, using the factory sample.
How can this be so hard to understand? If you have factory sample content and you use that as a base for your own PRESET within Form, Scanner XT etc.. you should be able to then send that PRESET to a friend/colleague (remember, a preset does NOT contain the sample data!!!) and load up perfectly fine there.

If I edit a Battery 4 kit, changing the battery 4 internal parameters like envelopes, FX etc I should be able to send that PRESET to a friend and it should load up instantly and perfectly because the sample data is factory. This is NOT the case right now. NI software is just too stupid to load it correctly.
I always like to do this when I'm working on a project, I'll make sure I save the kit with the samples. This way I always have the samples with the project, even if on a differently setup machine.
I get you - like why can't you edit a factory kit to your liking and share just the kit with now snappier envelopes. My guess is it uses the file path of the sample, no the relative path to the factory library, so if two computers have different install paths - bad luck. And tbh, this happens everytime I get a new computer...This time I'll organise it right. Get me every time

Battery is a great plugin and one of the last NI plugins I still use...
I like it for percussion and it has some great features to tweak the sounds and tune them for the track...
The Kontakt DNA is evident and the shared code gives it a powerful sound engine with some great effects...
Yes Sir...
Native Instruments lost the plot in the last few years when those two clown running the company changed their focus to making bulk money, but some of the glory of their golden years still shines through and I hope that they can get back to that place and start creating inspired musical instruments once again...
We can still dream can't we ?

Naah I don't think we'll ever see the former Glory of N.I. again , bean counters and a new Ceo who's main speciality is 'software on demand 'digitalboytn wrote: Mon Dec 20, 2021 11:23 pm but some of the glory of their golden years still shines through and I hope that they can get back to that place and start creating inspired musical instruments once again...

There is a good reason why Stephan Schmidt started his own company ( non linear labs ) , hardware but completely based on reaktor .
I think he still owns some reaktor i.p. .
If one can dream , I dream of stephan Schmidt buying out vadim Zavalishin ( inventor of reaktor core and still at N.I. ) and bring out a reaktor successor under the non linear labs banner .

Mostly they've always had some serious issues with bean counting. With the result it taking years for Absynth to stabilize on Windows and Reaktor to stabilize on Mac, Komplete Care and the fiasco that followed, dropping multiple plug ins to shore up profits etc. A poor adoption of new coding standards that resulted in a long wait for Intel versions on the Mac side, and all this was 15 years ago.digitalboytn wrote: Mon Dec 20, 2021 11:23 pm Battery is a great plugin and one of the last NI plugins I still use...

Nothing has really changed in terms of their productivity, but it is easier to point fingers now at the fact they have investors dumping money in they need to see a profit on than it was back then. We still see slow adoption of modern standards for older plug ins, some concern that the older line up will not make it to VST3 and/or M1, and a concentration on marketing.
Massive X is popular, people love it, they love the Play stuff (regardless of my thoughts on it), they aren't going anywhere yet, and honestly they were already engaging in most of behavior that comes with third party investors, they're going to be doing the same thing as before.
