Steven, if you want maybe i can help you out on that song your stuck on. One reason i almost never get stuck is that I sketch out an idea first in logic then refine it later. i record all my guitar and vocals dry and then tweak it later and i always record into logic so i am not left thinking, 'should i use this or that to record'. logic is my recorder.

We can't be perfect at everything. Work on what you're good at first.Steven West wrote:So do I blame age, technology, expectations, lack of knowledge still, or just the simple fact I've gone to far down the other road to get back to the intersection? Or maybe tommorrow I'll write a better pop song and be totally happy with it?
Rather than blame the technology, consider perhaps that limitations inherent to the technology are part of the problem. Twenty years ago, it was a lot harder to write, record, produce, etc music alone, so those who wanted to make music often made it with others. Now it's so easy to make music alone, that sometimes we forget that maybe it could be better with someone else.
Cheers,
Steve

yeah! as a matter of fact me and a bud were jammin' until 3am last night via "webcam" - had both our "PC studios" crankin' and havin' at it with our guitars! not hi-fi but useful for working out ideas when you're separated by 250+ miles...shamann wrote:Twenty years ago, it was a lot harder to write, record, produce, etc music alone, so those who wanted to make music often made it with others. no reason to even work alone any more either...

I can't really separate one from the other. Its all important to me, largely because i tall contributes to the feel of what we're trying to do. I could never imagine doing any of our songs with just an acoustic guitar because you could never make it intense enough. That said, when I'm bored I often do my vocals lounge-style, just for a laugh, and I can actually make it work, albeit with a very different mood as a result.
If I'm doing it for real it just has to have all the elements in there and working together or its just not what its meant to be. its one of the reasons that I am not a fan of remixes.
To message, we once worked up a great sounding, NOVAkILLized cover of Send Me An Angel but we never performed it because I just couldn't bring myself to sing those lyrics. We thought about getting our manager to translate it into German but we still would have known what we were singing and that was enough to stop us. Lyrics are important to us but not necessarily for the message so much as the mood. We like the lyrics to be aggressive and confronting but, at the end of the day, they don't need to mean anything in particular. Clever and arty is nice but we're not so prolific that we can afford to be too choosy.

Steven West i share your thoughts!
And
a partner is something that is wicked to have, you need to make decisions to get somewhere and you have someone to return a question with... too bad im not blessed with a partner other than in school, though i have this feeling i want to make it on my own, i dont want to ride on anyones wave... though when i feel i have some more confidence i would love to work with someone.
gullfo, i think i need to think like that, i never practise what i preach, i should reboot my freaking brain!
First stop is city of ideas and not city of perfection,
"why start to lay the puzzle when you dont have the piece´s"
-thats the story of my life
and to answer the topic, latley iv´e been all out of ideas, when i have ideas i never follow them up, often losing them in the land of tweaking, or just being overly happy about something that is far from done, repeating a loop over and over till i lose insight. bahh.
i try to communicate with my self, writing notes about what i should do, but i never do it!
please Someone kill me!
im a weak weak person!
Well im still fighting the battle, i guess i like the technical side of it all, but the music side of it is what drives me! i feel best when i can just shut everything out and play my keyboard with a nice playable sound or just tinkle on a piano...with no intention of recording it...
nice thread, it was just what i needed
Good night

I can't remember who did that song, Aussies of some sort, but didn't they also have a tune called Catch me I'm Falling. No, even translated into German, then Swedish and back into English could you disguise it enough.

No, never. We just thought that with nice, gutteral German we might make it sound tough. Who were we kidding!?! It was Real Life BTW. I saw them live a lot and they were actually pretty good, but that record was a shocker.shamann wrote:I can't remember who did that song, Aussies of some sort, but didn't they also have a tune called Catch me I'm Falling. Technology has the awesome potential to can make loners of us all.
