Any alternatives to the Cubase midi microtuner that work with all VSTs?

Hi all..

Looking for a midi plugin that can microtune midi instruments.

Have tried the built-in one in Cubase with and it really doesn't seem to work at all!

Have had a quick look and the options seem to be:

1. an autotune type plugin - not what i'm after as I just want to alter the midi note info coming in so that the vst plays the note at the altered pitch
2. what look to be jscript based pitch-bend translators - these could be an option but look a little scary to set up. Plus, i'm guessing they will only work on live midi being played in? What if I wanted to alter the pitch of a part that already been recorded and/or is triggered by an arpeggiator?

In theory, the built-in cubase one seems to be the perfect solution, i.e. a midi effect that can be used as an insert on the track... if it only worked!

Appreciate any suggestions, many thanks :)

I believe you need MPE-capable VST to have this work.

Thanks for the oddsound suggestion... even better, they have a free mini version "global" tuner.

This works great, the only restriction being that the VST needs to have MTS-ESP compatibility... which (as luck would have it) none of my current VSTs have. That said, according to oddsound wesbite MTS-ESP is easy to implement so more and more VSTs are coming into the fold...

After some more digging (mainly looking at this wiki page: https://en.xen.wiki/w/List_of_microtona ... re_plugins), i have decided to check out infinitone DMT, as this seems to be suggesting it can work with pretty much any VST.

Teething probs at the moment as the free trial gives me an error message... awaiting support from them.

Between the vsts that natively support micro-tuning (as listed on the above wiki page) and the ones that can be addressed via MTS-ESP, it would be perfectly possible to have a wide pallette of tools for "microtonal" production [for example if I wanted to produce "432hz meditation music", or match VST synths to a non-concert pitch recording without messing with the pitch of the original sound source] ... so that's good to know.

However, having the bit between my teeth now... I'd like to find an option for some of my favourite VSTs like Arturia DX7, Synth1 and Audiorealism ABL3 as well... without having to resort to audio-based autotune, which sounds horrible!

The search continues :)

Am I right in thinking the microtune is a tool specifically for bitwig?

shame, if so as I'm using cubase (which is MPE enabled of course)... and also has a microtune facility... except it doesn't work, at least not on any of the VSTs I have :(

Just to wrap this up...

After many attempts with various plugins, Pitch Innovations Fluid Pitch is the one that has worked for me an ALL VSTs (provided they have pitch bend) with a minimum of fuss.

It simply alters the pitch bend midi info, so in my case in Cubase, I have the VST synth I want to use (e.g. Arturia DX7) on an instrument track. Then I create a MIDI track which contains the notes I'm sending to the DX7. Then I create another instrument track containing Fluid Pitch. So the routing is: MIDI track > Fluid Pitch IN > Fluid Pitch OUT > DX7

Easy enough... if Cubase allowed MIDI inserts that weren't limited its own internal MIDI effects it would be even easier, but still - Happy Days :)

The MTS-ESP Suite comes with a VST-MA plugin that presents in Cubase as a MIDI effect, like the built in Steinberg ones. Also, it can retune anything using the MIDI Client via pitchbend, multi-channel pitchbend, MPE or MTS sysex, in addition to automatic MTS-ESP retuning in supported plugins.

Thanks! I have discovered this to be true... am using MTS suite for all my microtuning needs now - an excellent plugin :)
