In my advanced audio controls, I have the options of enabling/disabling "AC3 SPDIF" and "PCM SPDIF". When I toggle them, I don't sense any differences performance or sound-wise, but i could be wrong. Can someone tell me what "SPDIF" is?
Thanks,
Chase

Sony Philips Digital InterFace
Basically, its a digital audio cable, useful for sending AC3 or LPCM DVD streams to an external receiver. Basically, it bypasses your DAC, and defers the analog conversion to whatever is hooked up to it. Or it can be used for simply transferring from a digital out to a digital in without going through an ADC and then a DAC.

"Sony/Phillips Digital Interface." Digital audio, over optical fiber (with special connectors) or traditional wire (with RCA plugs & jacks).
Hey, do you know a fellow name of Race? :-) If so, we've already met.

SPDIF is a digital interface. Disable it. They are only useful for routing to and from other digital devices that have SPDIF inputs/outputs (ie. Digital mixers). Performance-wise it's probably not going to make any difference, but it is good to get in the habit of disabling inactives.
Anti-aliasing is for "synthmonk%ys".

Digital I/O. It's good for recording to and from DAT recorders, or between soundcards, since it will make sample-accurate copies.Chase wrote:Can someone tell me what "SPDIF" is?
