*sigh* Too true, mate.

Technology has the awesome potential to can make loners of us all.

He says...as he sits quietly in the red glow of his control room, swirling a mouthful of Clos Mogador whilst silently regarding the gear that surrounds him. So well rigged...and yet...

so utterly...

and desparately...

...alone.

Thanks guys for the great responses, picks me up greatly! :D And speaking of 'pick ups' - look at Lady J go! You go on, with your fiiiine self! But greatly appreciate the offer as well! :hihi:

Shamann brings up the point that is the one in question for me atleast... 20 Years ago, yes - harder to make a cassette sound as good as New Order or Paul Simon's Graceland, true. BUT, with my limited gear and recording - it was still easier for me to slam in some freeform ideas with a guitar over a static beatbox pattern and a open mic, and maybe overdub a synth bass and a weird lead line. There was that 'feeling of accomplishment' or something?
I'd run a cassette to a party and takeover the deck and yell out 'Check this one everyone!' And they'd roll there eyes and put up with it for 5min or so, and say 'It's pretty good... Like the lyrics... The synths are pretty weird... Kinda ends abruptly?' - and in my mind, I'd say 'YES! I SLAYED 'EM ALL!'

But somewhere, something changed? You guys and KVR is like THE PLACE for me to be, and you're all so great... But that feeling of 'accomplishment' is hard to come by nowadays for myself? I think sometimes 'If I do a 20 track orchestral piece with D&B and techno elements - maybe that will make me feel better?'... And that winds up a forced nightmare I don't want to divulge.
Or, to just do a 4 track simple song - even if it's catchy, and perfectly arranged and all that... I can't let it go until I do 'one more tweek', or 'one more effect'... That's dangerous! :-o

It's almost too EASY now? Whether you have just Orion and it's 'in house synths' - or you have Logic and Cubase and Sonar and 1001 VSTi gear.... Like Putte! I should becoming more accoustomed to what I've gained over the years - but it's becoming more 'mind boggling' to me. A 2 dimensional synth on a laptop capable of such powerful sounds, and a 'collesium' as The Fall or Tom Waits would say - where I can immediately show you all what I've done with these 2D and 3D devices, and hear what you've done with yours.... Overwhelming isn't a suitable word anymore for me!

You know what I think started this thinking?
That U2 song Vertigo - Bono's got some powerful lines in that song about the state we're in.
I should just stick with 'I Will Follow' and I'd be fine.

I'm the opposite. I worked solo almost 20 years. its only since I've gone the software route that I've started working with anyone else. Probably because we hardly ever need to get together in order to share ideas.

I think you hit the nail there. U2 is a good inspiration in that aspect because they have evolved through so many stages and are able to take their roots into new decades. Don't deny yourself, but don't deny yourself change as well.
Anti-aliasing is for "synthmonk%ys".

Bones is right too, I've probably met and worked with and for more people here in a year than I have in 25! :-o My bestest buddy Tuz, Lady J, Mystahr, Ian Webster, vurt, Neko, and my apologies to anyones name I'm forgetting to mention on the moments notice. And that's just KVR! Then there's EX5tech, SP-808 users group, Synapse Audio (which is like the 'backroom' of KVR for many of us, such as Bones and Krim et al ;) )

So yeah Bones, you're right! I've worked with a hell of alot of people online already.

But still... it's so different at the same time - for me atleast? I think I've only worked with 4-5 singers over the years, jammed with 10 or so bands.
There was something about just sitting in a basement or studio while the drummers scoring weed, or the scotch is kicking in, and just talking shit with everyone? Mind you, look what I'm doing here.
But it's all 'black and white', and we can all think 'somewhat' what we're going to say to one another. Which is good in one way... But then we've all had our moments where we go off on nutty tangents to make people laugh, piss people off, ask a stupid question, apologise for what was said...

But you know what I miss here, 'honest indulgences', which is cool. And I'm sure I've missed others and their 'favorites' - but NEVER have I heard anyone say 'scuse me, I gotta take a piss', or 'I wouldn't go in the can for awhile, I just shat a drummers stool...' That's maybe the interaction I'm missing - okay, not about bathrooms only!

But you know what I mean! We can't even chip in and share a pizza here...

And no JPEG of a pizza pie can change that. :(
So save it Tugger, save it!
