Mr Arkadin wrote: Thu Dec 23, 2021 4:49 pm As a disgruntled BFD3 owner I was hoping for a bit more on the real kit side. The description mentions acoustic drums, but I havent really seen any rock groove examples. Is it not really geared towards natural sounds and rhythms?

Hi Mr Arkadin,

As well as electronic sounds, TRIAZ does indeed feature a lot of acoustic sounds too (around 3,000), however unlike BFD, the aim was not to emulate the nuances of acoustic drums in depth with multiple velocity levels and many round robins, but rather to deliver a diverse collection of wonderfully designed sounds that are recorded with lots of character, depth and unique sonic imprint in order to give you sounds you have not heard before. For example we recorded acoustic drum kits in non traditional ways to give almost Foley like textures, recorded huge cinematic mallet drums through unique processing chains, acoustic bass drums through unique bass /guitar amps and so much more - just to give a brief idea!. We also did things like record electronic drums through huge rooms in one of the best drum rooms in North America, and picked these back up using characterful vintage mics for a hybrid type sound.

As well as all of the unique, sound design content we of course also did record more traditional acoustic sounds. These were primarily recorded at 'Revolution Recording' in Toronto, in Studio A - a wonderful sounding room, through a wonderful Neve desk - http://www.revolutionrecording.com/studios.php

You can see some the acoustic sources we recorded for TRIAZ below:

• A vast collection of beautifully recorded Found Sounds, Foley and unconventional Percussion - making use of bowing, smashing, dropping, hitting, re-amping, layering, creative mic techniques, re-pitching to analogue tape, processing and experimentation.
• Adams 26" copper Timpani
• Adams 32" copper Timpani
• Chinese Red Drums – Multiple Sizes
• Chinese Cymbals
• Chinese Timpani
• Tuned Gongs
• Frame Drums
• 20" Dream wind Gong
• 28" Dream wind Gong
• A vast selection of various characterful Cymbals & Hi-Hats (prepared & unprepared)
• A large selection of huge Mallet Drums & Cinematic Drums
• A vast collection of various Shakers, Cabasas and Guiros
• Various Cajons
• Various Bongos
• A large selection of Congas, Tumba and Quinto Drums
• Various Tambourines and small percussion
• Tam Tam
• A diverse and creative selection of Acoustic Toms of all sizes
• A vast, diverse collection of Snare Drums, from Dunnett, Ludwig, YC, Slingerland and many more.
• A large collection of Blocks, Bells, Sticks and other small acoustic percussion
• A diverse collection of Acoustic Bass Drums
• A large collection of creatively recorded Modern Acoustic Drum Kits
• A large collection of creatively recorded Vintage Acoustic Drum Kits
• Adams Rosewood Xylophone
• Adams Rosewood Marimba
• CB Orchestral Glockenspiel

If you'd like to know the exact drum kits used, let me know and I can find out for you. We recorded a lot of them and hence why I didn't list the details for every one above! :tu:
Hi, congratulations on the release!

Can I use the samples outside of the Kontakt instrument, ie in a granular synth or another sampler like my MPC?

Yes, you can.

Nice!

Edit: Thanks telecharge, that tipped me over the edge, I just bought it ;)

3 questions for anyone who bought this:

1. Can I load the samples into other vsti's? (In other words, what is the sample goat for the 10k samples)

2. Is there a probability function for each hit? (Like can I make it so that a specific drum hit has only 60% chance to play on each loop?)

3. Can I use it just as a sequencer to control another drum vsti, using midi out, without using it's internal sounds? (I can't imagine this not existing in a modern drum vsti but I had to ask)

i.e. UI is flat, drab, grey, boring, and offers no affordances.... So you have to guess what is and isn't a button. 'Clean' as opposed to 'dirty'? Or 'clean' as in 'modern' and therefore 'good', even though it's worse than the user interfaces we've been using since the beginning of WIMP based operating systems, that had clearly visible 3D buttons, scrollbars, etc.?

In our opinion the TRIAZ interface is about as clean and as user friendly as can be (our opinion of course!). I'd love to see an example of what you feel to be a user friendly interface - feel free to share? I understand color choices themselves are totally personal preference though, but the dark look of TRIAZ is designed to make it easier on the eye - much more so than a UI like our Revolution instrument which is bright and more 'in your face' as such.

Flat designs are much easier on the eye in general. 3D or skeuomorphic designs (like we had in Revolution for example) look nice to look at, at a glance, but are not good for spending a lot of time creating with.

We've had no major complaints on the UX or design thus far. If anything the feedback has been more much positive towards the flat design. Again though, I understand this is personal preference and everyone has different thoughts on things!

Color is used in a minimal, thought out way throughout to differentiate sections and different drum types (i.e kick, snare etc), which makes sense from a UX point of view.

There are barely any buttons in TRIAZ, and so many you are referring to a different UI?

Hi,

I'll answer your questions below:

1. Yes, none of the samples are locked in TRIAZ, meaning you have direct access to the wav files of all of the included 10K samples. Nicely organized too in folders, by drum type, tag and style.

2. Yes, every single note in the sequencer (per each step for every lane) has it's own chance control, allowing you to set the probability that it will not trigger.

3. Unfortunately not at this time, I am afraid. We'll see what the future brings!

Thanks for your interest :tu:

Another congrats on the release. this looks impressive especially for a drum Kontakt instrument, for which there are already many (and obviously including several releases by you guys). Nice work (and definitely a nice “clean” UI).

Looks great... I love the flat UI. Much prefer that approach over skeumorphic designs (with the exception of things really attempting to accurately emulate hardware, in which case skeumorphic can make sense). It's also one reason I love Valhalla's plugins. (Of course, in the case of Valhalla and Wave Alchemy, most importantly is that products from both sound fantastic).

Now, I'm a person who likes to tune a drumkit to the scale of the song.
When I listen to the demos I hear a lot of tuned and tonal sounds. Is there an easy way to know how the samples are tuned(without using analysis tools, that is).
Are the samples structured in a tonal way?

I used to play with Drumvolution some time ago, and I liked it. Im thinking of buying the new Triaz and dl the demo. But for some reason changing samples is not as smooth as in drumvolution. When I'm looking for a different kick for example, I notice that after 3 attempts Triaz is no longer in sync with Bitwig's metronome, the same with FL. Drumvolution the changing of samples went much more fluently. Never had a sync issue there. Is it just me!?

I'm also trying the demo. It doesn't let me change samples at all (demo limitation). Changing kits works as expected. No problems with getting out of sync in Bitwig.

However, the small Kontakt window (on my 27" screen) is driving me crazy.

I bought it a few days ago and for the most part I like it, but I'm finding the same thing as you - if I try to change a drum sound Triaz quickly starts to lose sync with Cubase. Really hope this is something they can fix soon.

True you cannot actually change the samples, I thought it at first, but you can still browse them.
But despite the demo not having any of the other samples, I'm afraid the full version will have the same quirks. Please try to only browse the (empty) samples and see if it stays on sync.
