Is that a new adjustment to the rules? I just always assumed that modulation was verboten!
OSC Rules:

Effects - what is NOT allowed:

- Chorus, flanger, phaser, rotary, or related modular effects.

- Any type of modulation effect (e.g. chorus, phaser, flanger, rotary etc.). (Please note that effects like reverb or delays that perform modulation to achieve their sound are ALLOWED, but the modulation usage must be minimal.)

- Tapestops, Granular delays, pitching, or related sampling effects.

- Effects that pitch the sound (e.g. pitched / granular delays, tapestops etc.

- Turning up the effect too much where it transforms the nature of the synth (Heavy overdrive / distortion, etc)

- Any effect that transforms the sound to make them unrecognizable as being from the synth (Overdrive, heavy distortion, bit crushing, or related). Never go full 11

Ah, thanks for looking it up for us, L-EctroBit!

Pretty much as I remembered. I always stayed well clear of it, although I may in the past have used a reverb/delay or two that modulated the signal unbeknownst to me. I always use the TAL Reverb 4 now, it's reassuring that there's an actual knob that I can set to zero.

I always wondered about the Valhalla delay, though - I can't help but feel that there's got to be a ton of stuff going on there, even when you set the mod depth to zero! But that *is* just a feeling with no evidence to show for it - so don't mind me there.

I meant that things like chorus, flange, phaser etc are not allowed, except if they are native to the VSTi!

If you use e.g. distortion as a modulation, then use it sparingly ...

But the above rules are in force ...

Here's my track, a nice wee short thing that started out as an experiment in DnB and ended up as something different. Someone suggested its "Future Ceilidh / Bothy Bass" so i've called it Future Ceilidh :tu:

My first time ever using Triple Cheese and I fully understand all the praise for it in the thread! From now on I will use it all the time, love it! :tu:

Wonderful track! Flowing subtly but steadily. It makes me visualize a busy ants trail :)
Wow, thank you very much! Really glad you like the track. :)

Unfortunately this entry make use of Impulse Responses to get that violin like sound and Impulse Responses are NOT Allowed according to the OSC Rules.

So this track is disqualified.

Since this is the case I will make a new updated version of it but this time with ”real” percussion (korg wavedrum), sampled and physical modeling violins/pianos etc. Fretless guitar and stuff like that - put in a little more effort. ;)

As soon as I have made a new version I'll send you a PM so you can download it from Soundcloud. I really have no clue of when this new improved version will actually be finished and uploaded though… ;)

When I tried to make the triple cheese violin fit the song without impulse responses I got really frustrated. Due to this I ended up doing a whole new track in the same Cubase project but this time at a lower tempo and no violin at all… :)

You can check out my new Triple Cheese entry below.

Personally I think this new song has a better vibe to it compared to និព្វាន*Vanquishing Devaputta Māra*និព្វាន but you and some other listeners who seem to like that track might disagree…

This new one is a more towards jazz/funk/soul.

Anyways hopefully you'll dig atleast some of the stuff or some part in the new entry, many thanks for listening to and liking the now disqualified entry! :)

As a simile it is like a metaphor…

Hello KVRians,

I'm very happy that using IRs are against the OSC rules, otherwise this new song with fresh ideas wouldn't even exist. I basically made a whole new track within the previous project. No violin this time and more of a steady GROOVE*

Evening all - Here's my submission for OSC#154. This was almost titled 'Brie Runner' but in the end I decided to borrow the name from an old John Cooper Clarke album partly because it fitted with the chosen synth, but mostly because he's a legend (IMO, YMMV). 8)

I didn't have a lot of time to work on a tune this month, so it's not quite as fully fleshed out as I'd hoped, and possibly a little rough round the edges, but I like the simplicity of it so here we are. Great choice of synth this month, I really like the sound of TC, it doesn't need much in the way of FX's to make it sing (for my simple needs anyway...).

As always, enjoy or not... :D

Hi,

Can I just say, first thanks for your soundcloud comment! I am humbled!

I still think you may fall foul of the Normal OSC rules. ALL sounds MUST be made with the synth of the month. No external sounds at all. This means you have to work up your percussion from INIT, or modify supplied presets. Certainly NO SAMPLES, even loading a wavetable synth and playing that sample (e.g. a nice kick, or crash) is simply against the rules. Also, be aware that if you have made a good kick, render it, and then copy/paste that over the track is also NOT allowed. You can only render and freeze a WHOLE track to save cpu.

Hope this helps, but getting your head around the rules sometimes can be a bit awkward.

Put simply. ALL sounds from the synth. NO samples. Take care with external modulating FX so as to not lose the sound of the synth. e.g Valhalla Shimmer would be out of the question.

All the best for the New Year ... let's hope it'll turn out better than the one we have just had.

I think you misread @Yadrichik_Chaya's post. As I read it, he's withdrawing that track completely and submitting a totally new track, playing by the rules. That former track he's going to rework not in context of OSC.
