@EvilDragon:
Do you still accept new preset banks before the main Surge XT release? I was thinking that I probably owe the community a few presets as I've been using Surge quite a lot.

So the thread here is not about the aesthetic of DAWs not whether or not it's good at making music? Isn't it possible FL is so popular because of that very fact?
The wannabe GUI designer, sorry, but this is an outstanding example of the Dunning-Kruger effect.

The new nightly version seems to work just fine on my system (Win10), but my user patch directory doesn't show up in the drop-down menu like it did in the old Surge, it just displays the factory content.
When I press "open user patch directory" button in the menu in the lower right corner, it opens up the right folder and I can import patches that way, but I can't access the patches directly through the patch dropdown menu. Also, when I press "open user patch directory" in the upper menu, it doesn't do anything.
Is it something that's going to be sorted later down the line or are the user patches going to be selectable through the upcoming patch browser only?

Hmmm, weird. User patches show up over here just fine. What does your About screen say about user data path?
Also, if you go to Menu->Data Folders->Set custom user data folder... you can point Surge to where your folder should be.
Surge XT has its own user data folder, so patches and other things from Surge 1.9 won't be automatically migrated.

Well, I have and it still doesn't show up in the dropdown menu, that's the issue.EvilDragon wrote: Sat Jan 15, 2022 5:22 pm Also, if you go to Menu->Data Folders->Set custom user data folder... you can point Surge to where your folder should be.
The user data folder has already been set, the plugin apparently knows where it is because when you ask it to load a user patch it opens up the user data folder, but it still doesn't display the user patches in the dropdown menu.
Also, if you ask it to open up the user data folder in the dropdown menu, it refuses to work, it works just fine in the menu in the lower right corner though.
There is a Surge XT file in the custom user data folder, I believe it's a xml file if I recall correctly.

I've set it to the dedicated folder in the documents directory, nothing fancy really.

Hold on, do you even have any user saved patches? Can you try just going from init state, add a filter move cutoff and save that? Does that then show user patches in the patch selector?
"Open user data folder..." in the main menu opens the overarching folder (Documents/Surge XT), whereas "Open user patches folder..." from patch selector will look for the actual Patches folder (Documents/Surge XT/Patches). If you haven't saved any user patches, there's nothing to show!

Well, I have renamed the original Surge user data folder with some user patches located in a subfolder, so there are some patches in it. But I guess I will try to assign the user data directory to the subfolder and see whether that fixes things. That being said, the above configuration used to work just fine in the previous Surge. Will test and report in a moment.

OK, the reason why the "open the user patches folder" button in the dropdown menu didn't work is because my subfolder in the Surge XT folder was called Custom with some patches in it and Surge XT couldn't overwrite the folder.
Once I renamed the subfolder to some other name, the "Custom" Surge XT subfolder appeared with sub-subfolders for user wavetables, patches, a readme file and so forth.
Opening the user patches folder through the dropdown menu works now.
Having imported all my patches into the dedicated "patches" sub-subfolder in the Custom User Data area, user patches still don't show up in the dropdown menu though, that's a bummer. I have rescanned the folders, refreshed the browser and all that, still nothing. That's how my About screen looks now:

OK so one other thing that changed between 1.9 and XT is that things are all in proper subfolders now. Your user data folder should look like this:
Surge XT/FX Presets
Surge XT/Patches
Surge XT/Skins
Surge XT/Wavetables
Then each individual set of things should go in the specified folder. This is a hard requirement. We are not directly supporting outright renaming of the 1.9 user data folder. It's best to leave it be and manually copy things over rather than rename the old folder - especially as we move forward in future major versions there could be situations where we break backwards compatibility, so for example we're pondering about Surge XT 2.0 not being fully backwards compatible (and again a side by side install). There are quite a few reasons why we would wish to do this for XT 2.0, so just be mindful of this.
