Sample comparison software - does it exist?

I wish I had software that could scan samples within a folder, and its subfolders, and see whether there were any two samples that were exactly the same (even if the filename had been changed). I have downloaded many samples, and I know that many are duplicates, but it is rather time consuming to try to eliminate them!

That alone would be great, but it would be awesome if a program could go through a bunch of drum samples and output lists of samples that are very similar, even if not exactly the same. This would also help reduce clutter.

Anything like this exist? Or perhaps there is some software for general use that finds duplicate files on one computer?

EDIT: OK...I'm searching...seems there are such things as duplicate file finders...anyone know a good one? How about a free one? I'll keep looking around, but feel free to chime in!

I use Double Killer to eliminate duplicate files. It isn't educated about audio files in particular, and cannot search for merely similar audio files, but it does a great job of finding identical files--even if the filenames, timestamps, etc are different.

It's also free.

Oh, one more thing. There are programs which can locate similar graphic images, such as Dup Detector (another freebie I use), but I'm not aware of anything which can find close matches between similar audio files. If anyone knows of software that does that, please speak up. :)

Thanks for the reply, McLilith!

I just downloaded Duplicate Detector (free) and NoClone (limited demo) from Tucows. Wow, it looks like I have a lot of duplicates!

Yeah, the "similar wav finder" was adream...it would be cool, though.

Thanks again - maybe I'll look at the ones you mentioned and see which one I like the best.
