I've been using Logic for several months without any problems. Generally I was able to do whatever I needed to without going really deep into the program. Now I'm thinking I could improve my understanding of some of the deeper aspects.

How are the pad controls on Drum Machine Designer mapped to the parameters in the DAW? Besides the ones for pan, gain and sends 1 & 2 (labelled as reverb and delay) there's also controls affecting specific parameters inside Phat FX etc..
Presumably there's a level at which one can change how these controls are mapped, but I don't see a simple way via right-clicking etc..

What's the Logic?

If you instance Drum Machine Designer on a track you need to expand the folder in the arrange view and click on the track with the sample or instrument on it. Then you can either hit B on your keyboard or the Smart Controls button to open the pane. Click on the Show Inspector button in that pane and it will give you Logic's Smart Control editor. Map parameters as you need. By default for the DMD Logic uses the Modern 10 template. You can change that to whatever other template you need/want.

Aha, it was just one click away, didn't see the inspector. Very nice indeed.

So now I'm wondering if there's a way to apply modulators, LFOs etc., to such parameters, as one can in Tractktion/Waveform? Or is one limited to using automaton?

Unfortunately no. Logic does have a Modulator Midi Effect however it can't learn Smart Control parameters. If you want to modulate a plugins parameters you can assign those directly to the plugin like the Q Sampler or whatever effect you have going on. You can assign Smart Controls to the Midi Effect though so you can control the modulation (speed, lfo etc) via a knob.
