and in the same place, too. alexa's got a lot to answer for.

it's funny, you'd normally find feathers on a shuttle cock.

In the realm of crazy electro-acoustic stuff, I still want an Araya Piezothing.
I should have grabbed one while Patch Point still had them in stock, but foolishly I put it on my Christmas list instead, and now they're all gone. I suppose I can wait for version 3 though. Can't wait to put it on frame drums, HAPI drum, guitars, crash cymbals, etc.

Woah, that laser-cut hurdy-gurdy is something. I built a mechanical clock like that. Doesn't work too well but it was a fun build.
I'm interested in getting into more woodworking. I just don't have much of a flare for visual aesthetics, so everything I build looks very rough/utilitarian.
I've been having a lot of fun with electro-mechanical stuff lately. I made an electric Kalimba a few years back and I love that thing. Just a piezo inside the body, with a 1/4" jack mounted to the bottom. It's lovely to play through the Phonogene or Morphagene. I also do a lot of re-amping through small speakers, with like springs and washers on the driver. I do that kind of thing with a Remo Thunderdrum too, similar to this one: https://remo.com/products/product/sprin ... SP-0505-17
It's fun to do a makeshift spring reverb with that. I also have a water phone that I got on Etsy, which makes some incredible sounds and there are so many ways to interact with it.
The Field Kit is a great tool for these kinds of experiments. It works well with piezos, it has an envelope follower, it can drive a small speaker and a small motor or solenoid. It has lots of possibilities for feedback routing. It's not exactly hifi but when I'm just looking for inspiration, I often start with the Field Kit and my Zoom H5.

I still look somewhat longingly at the Field Kit and Field Kit Fx, but then realize in that 'oh, yeah' kinda way, that I have essentially built that (and then some) with my eurorack setup. Granted, at three times the price, but still... then there's this desk top stuff @400 euro's :justin3am wrote: Thu Dec 30, 2021 8:43 pm The Field Kit is a great tool for these kinds of experiments. I got given a similar clock kit a few weeks ago. Not built it yet.justin3am wrote: Thu Dec 30, 2021 8:43 pm Woah, that laser-cut hurdy-gurdy is something. I built a mechanical clock like that. Doesn't work too well but it was a fun build.
Yeah, Ive been accumulating a pile of hardware bits to build some 'acoustic' stuff from. Basically will really just be a bunch of boxes with springs and kalimba keys and stuff bolted on, but what the hellI've been having a lot of fun with electro-mechanical stuff lately.
