Can take the compression from being super soft and mu-like to super snappy. It feels like having multiple compressors on one without having too complicated interface like DC8C or Presswerk.

I'm about to get a bunch of replies "alerting" me that some plugins that I own and use have "easy" modes.
All right then, I'll point out another absurdity in this post. Molot GE is just as complicated as DC8C3! There are nearly as many controls, and it's less obvious what they do.

(I don't really mind, and love both of them. And I agree that the α-σ is a great tool for shaping.)

Is TDR limiter any good compared to Pro-L2 or new Sonible smart limiter?

I disagree. Almost everything on Molot other than "α-σ" is a standard compressor function that you'll see if you've used compressors before. There's not a bunch of vague "smoothing" parameters or "root-mean-square" buttons. It's all stuff everyone has used before. The one weird function has such a pronounced effect on the sound that it becomes extremely obvious. I've never looked at the manual to even find out what the "α-σ" button is *technically* doing until today because of this conversation. It simply wasn't necessary.

Doesn't mean I like Molot better than DC8C3, but I absolutely think it's friendlier to use right from the start.

it make me think reaper as delta feature for any plugins.

to get delta feature i guess it might be just reverting the phase to making it null so only the processed sound is left, but if there is non linearity not sure delta thing is accurate

Went back and had a proper look and the Limiter6 is interesting me. Haven't had a chance yet but will get around to demoing it properly soon. Too many other thing on my plate but I like the modular nature of it and addition of a HF limiter. I can see it being not overly intrusive for squeezing volume because it's several layers rather than one limiter to crush them all. I baulk a bit at $300 for a limiter, but $50 seems value with the proviso it has to be utilized a bit more circumspectly than singular crushers.

Anyone using limiter6 much? Reviews seem to be a bit mixed...

You can also use the compressor without other modules (or with clipping) to get great sounding compression action going on!
I use it mostly for master clipping and small amount of peak limiting (also on channels).

Nova is my favorite dyn-eq to use while mastering. Fabfilter doesn't give me attack/realease parameters.
You already know about kotelnikov, but i would add that the frequency dependent ratio in EL mode is a godsend to correct vocals that are either too loud or too quiet in context of a stereo mix.
Also, kotelnikov is a parallel powerhouse.
limiter6 is my true peak catcher at the end of the mastering chain.

GE versions all the way. Start with Kotelnikov GE. There's a difference and it's worth the money (even full price, but definitely on sale). It's glued to my master bus. Same with Slick EQ M.

Post

It's incredible how ridiculously GOOD Kotelnikov sounds!!

I have a question, please: what is the difference between turning up the make-up knob vs turning up the output one?
When do I want to do one or the other?

I love every single TDR plugin. I think they've got one of the most dynamite product stables out there. All winners, all capable of great things. Shout out to Klanghelm DC8C3 too, that's my go-to side chain compressor/ducker. Once you understand it, it's like controlling the mix with your mind

For more dynamic mixes, it's second to none. I love the open mode in clipper for some soft clipping, that combined with sigma mode in the compressor module produces some wonderful glue.

I love to smash the heck out of everything with the compressor in the sigma mode, then bring some of it back up by blending compression with some dry signal, sounds real sweet.

Peak Limiter is very transparent which both good and bad because it's very easy to go past 4 dB limiting without noticing anything. :hihi:

I really don't like to limit more than 1-2dB, so you need to be careful with it.

SlickEQ M sounds real nice, but I find it slow to work with, I wish I could adjust everything via the spectrum analyzer, maybe I should force myself to use it more.

Overall, Limiter6 and Nova/NovaGE would be my favorites, but all TDR plugins are top-notch stuff. They're not that expensive and the discounts are generous.

I'm a huge fan of nearly all of them, also. Nova GE and DeEdger are the only two I've not bought. The rest get used all the time, including Limiter6.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

Missing Slick M, Nova and DeEdger.
don't care about de-edger but it appears it's only a matter of time before i get Slick and Nova

Makeup turns up the wet signal. Output turns up the combined wet and dry signals.

I like to use Kotelnikov as a mastering compressor for the entire mix. It's nice for some subtle compression, and the interface is very intuitive. NOVA is also pretty good; I don't use it often, but it's a decent dynamic EQ if you don't have one
