The Zoviet-France 'Popular Soviet Songs and Youth Music' double cassette. Moulded ceramic box, silk-screened flag/banner folded up inside, plus feathers collected from around the Sellafield nuclear plant.

... all of their packaging up to 1986 was handmade and exquisite.

IMO, the Dorobo label has the most consistently excellent graphic design of any label I've seen.

Taint did one recently that was wrapped in bloodstained girl panties. But he's a bit odd in the head.

Another cool one was Vagina Dentata Organ's 'The Triumph of the Flesh' LP, where the clear vinyl enclosed a layer of the artist's blood.

That reminds me of the stunt that KISS did a long time ago. Each member of the band had a vial of blood drawn, and dumped it into the ink vats that printed the KISS comic books. Naturally, the comic books boldly declared that they were "printed with real KISS blood!" :-o

I'm not sure it would be such a good stunt these days, with concerns over AIDS, etc. People get squeamish more easily these days.

I think it was Zappa's "Joe's Garage, part I", the vinyl version ofcourse. Listened to the album with the cover folded open, so you could "follow the magic footprints" :D

I miss that in CDs, the fold-open rigid cardboard artwork so you actually got something in your hands to look at.
